Makayla Miller, a senior at Hanson Memorial High School in Franklin, received a $300 grant-in-aid from the Chi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International in St. Mary Parish. Representing Chi Chapter from left are Sue Price, with Makayla Miller in the center, and Robbie LeBlanc. Each year Chi Chapter awards this grant to an outstanding female graduate who plans to attend college and major in education. Makayla will attend Nicholls State University.

West Nile virus has appeared in Franklin, according to contractor Cajun Mosquito Control LLC.
Cajun Mosquito also said May 31 that West Nile had been detected in upper St. Martin.
