“Emile the Crawfish” received a pardon Tuesday from Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser. Nungesser, holding Emile, was joined by area queens and Dr. Joseph Savoie, University of Louisiana at Lafayette president. Emile was named after J. Emile Verret, a former lieutenant governor from 1944-48.

‘Emile the Crawfish’ no longer in pinch after ceremonial pardon

LAFAYETTE — “Emile the Crawfish” was transported from his home in a pond near Kaplan to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Tuesday in a police car.
