Bayou Vista Garden Club has ‘topsy-turvy’ program

Gloria Roy, Bayou Vista Garden Club vice president, presented a container gardening program for the March meeting.
She created a topsy-turvy garden by stacking pots at angles on a post and filling each with a variety of plants; some which included verbena, creeping Jenny, coreopsis, air plants, mint and a variety of foliage. Roy also demonstrated how to create a tabletop topsy-turvy container garden. Roy painted several of the pots in pastels for spring and provided tips for the care and maintenance of the plants and pots.
Nancy Marcel and Dawn Thomason served as hostesses for the meeting. They created a pot-et-fleur design titled, “The Awakening of Spring,” incorporating potted plants, cut flowers and foliage. Some of the potted selections were ivy, pothos, Asiatic lily, Gerbera daisy, petunia and lucky bamboo. The cut flowers and foliage used were leather leaf fern, ornamental cabbage, African lily and ghost plant.
A member plant exchange was conducted by President Donna Bucci. The door prize winner was Verdie Laws.
The next Bayou Vista Garden Club meeting is at 6:30 p.m. April 10 at the Bayou Vista Community Center.
