Patterson holds off West St. Mary for 14-12 victory

Patterson did everything it could to give away Friday’s season-opening game to West St. Mary. Fortunately for the Lumberjacks, the Wolfpack ran out of chances — finally, after a three-hour, four-minute game as the result of sanctioned heat timeouts, incompletions, penalties and a myriad of players succumbing to cramping injuries due to the heat. Patterson committed three turnovers, including one on a simple quarterback kneel-down that would have ended the game almost automatically, but still held on for a 14-12 victory.
