When Central Catholic High School’s baseball team walked off the field at McMurry Park as Division IV state runner-up Friday night, more than just the team’s season ended.
For Dan Irwin, the school’s lone assistant coach who has been a part of each of the school’s five state baseball championships, so did his time on the field. Irwin announced earlier this year that after 20 years as an assistant, he is walking away from the baseball field.
“I’m going to miss this tremendously,” he said. “I’ve been doing this for so long.”
