Two from east St. Mary win track titles

Two east St. Mary athletes brought home state championship medals from the LHSAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships over the weekend at LSU.

Ava Claire Calais, a sophomore at Central Catholic, won the Class 1A girls 300-meter hurdles championship in 49.05, the only sub-50 time in the finals. Calais also finished second in the 100-meter hurdles.

Brett Bearb, a Berwick High senior, won the Class 3A boys javelin with a 173-08.50.

Also placing at the state meets:

--Davonte Walker, Patterson, in the Class 3A boys 110-meter hurdles.

--Sarah Daniels, Morgan City, in Class 4A girls 400 meters.

--Arion Calloway, Morgan City, in the Class 4A girls javelin.

--Greg Toups, Berwick, in the Class 3A boys discus.

--Addison Grizzaffi, Central Catholic, in the Class 1A girls discus.

--Lucy Hamer, Central Catholic, in the Class 1A girls triple jump.
