Patterson scores twice in scrimmage

The Cecilia Bulldogs scored two touchdowns in the live quarter of their spring game at home Saturday against the Patterson Lumberjacks, while Patterson was shut out.
While the Lumber-jacks did reach the end zone during the live quarter, the play was called back because their quarterback threw a touchdown pass beyond the line of scrimmage.
While the Lumber-jacks didn’t reach the end zone during the live quarter, their first team scored twice during the other portions of the scrimmage, and Cecilia scored two touchdowns during that time, too.
Patterson coach Zach Lochard said the Lumberjacks proved they can move the ball when they like to in their run and pass game and make defensive stops against the Bulldogs.
“So I was very excited about that,” he said.
A year ago, Cecilia finished 7-2 and advanced to the Class 4A playoffs.
For Patterson, quarterback Caylon Davis completed 10 of 19 passes for 176 yards and a touchdown He also rushed for a score.
Tylon Walton had five receptions for 139 yards and a touchdown to lead the Lumberjacks’ receivers, while Karson Paddie added three receptions for 34 yards.
Mark Hilliard rushed six times for 32 yards.
Defensively, Patterson had several sacks and tackles for loss.
Lonnie Kinchen had five tackles, a tackle for loss and a sack; Demond Davis recorded 2.5 sacks, a tackle for loss, two tackles and an assist; Jayden Harvey had a tackle for loss and an assist; Christian Johnson totaled three tackles and a sack; and Drake Dinger had an interception and a tackle.
Lochard noted that three of Cecilia’s four touchdowns were due to mistakes by Patterson’s defense that are correctable.
“I was very excited about what we accomplished this spring,” he said. “Last year, my first year, we didn’t get to have a spring, so to be able to accomplish what we did in the month of May and be able to learn from the film and work at what we want to work on all summer and fall camp, I’m very excited about where we’re at as a team.”
Lochard said the Lumberjacks will conclude the school year with strength and conditioning work before moving into summer work, which will include weekly 7-on-7 competition with Covenant Christian Academy.
