Panthers garner 63-20 win over WSM Wolfpack
NEW IBERIA _ Trenayvian Amos, Trey Henry, Peter LeBlanc and William Regard all scored two touchdowns, lifting the Catholic High School of New Iberia Panthers to a 63-20 District 2-A victory over the West St. Mary Wolfpack here Thursday at the Panther Stadium in a game which the site was switched from Wolfpack Stadium.
Catholic High (5-1, 2-0) jumped out to a 42-0 halftime advantage after totaling 21 first quarter points along with 21 more in the second stanza.
In the third quarter, West St. Mary managed to outscore Catholic High by a 20-7 margin to trim the deficit to 49-20 when Jac-Kyric Roberson caught one touchdown pass before Daylon Richard hauled in two more scoring aerials for the Wolfpack.
Catholic High _ which tallied 508 yards rushing yards on the night _ opened the scoring on a 28-yard run from KK Reno. Trey Henry, who ran 13 times for 122 yards and 2 touchdowns, scored on runs of 4 and 13 yards respectively to send the Panthers outfront by a 21-0 lead in the first stanza.
Catholic High quarterback Trenayvian Amos ran for a pair of nine yard scores before handing off to Peter LeBlanc, who made good on a 10-yard TD burst, giving Catholic High a 42-0 halftime score.
LeBlanc finished as the game’s leading rusher with 152 yards on eight carries and two touchdowns.
Richard _ who turned in an outstanding performance with 14 receptions for 252 yards with three touchdowns for an average of 18 yards per catch _ helped the Wolfpack draw closer to the Panthers in the third quarter with his brilliant TD catches of 15 and 43 yards.
Roberson’s first touchdown triggered the comeback when he grabbed a 19-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter as the Wolfpack finished with 312 passing yards and 118 rushing yards for a total of 430 total yards.
WSM quarterback Taylun Druilhet connected on 19 of 34 passes for 312 yards for four touchdowns and one interception.
CHSNI dominated from the opening quarter, building a 42-0 halftime cushion.
In the third quarter, West St. Mary benefitted from clutch aerial touchdown passes from Druilhut to cut the deficit.
Druilhet hooked up with Roberson on a 19-yard TD before tossing TD strikes of 15 and 43 yards to Richard as the Wolfpack closed the gap at 42-20 in the third quarter.
Catholic High quickly answered with a pair of William Regard touchdown carries, sending the Panthers ahead by a 49-20 margin in the third stanza.
West St. Mary’s Druilhet connected again with Richard on a 19-yard hookup for a score before LeBlanc scored on an 11-yard run to send the Panthers out to the 63-20 league victory.
Druilhet led the Wolfpack ground attack with 11 carries for 75 yards while Demondric Pierre hhad one carry for 59 yards. Druilhet also connected on 19 f 34 passes for 312 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.
Richard finished with 14 catches for 252 yards with three scores. Roberson caught three passes for 45 yards and one touchdown while Ahmon Colbert and Kobe Phillips finished with one catch apiece.
Phillips, who punted four times for an average of 26 yards per boot, also had an interception for the Wolfpack.
West St. Mary (1-5, 1-2) will play host to Jeanerette in District 7-2A Friday at 7 p.m.
