Local athletes compete at state track meet

The Tri-City area will be represented by several athletes at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field State Meet Thursday and Friday at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
The contingent is led by Berwick High in Class 3A, which has three competitors in four events.
Central Catholic has one competitor in two events, while Patterson has a competitor in one event.
The local action will begin Thursday when the Class C, B and 1A teams compete.
Central Catholic’s Ava Claire Calais will compete in the 300-meter hurdles and 100-meter hurdles.
Calais is the No. 2 seed in the 300-meter hurdles after recording a time of 48.65 in regional competition. Madison Mahfouz of Merryville is 1A’s top seed with a time of 48.6.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Calais is seeded No. 4 with a time of 17.16. Emily Davis of Covenant Christian is the event’s top seed with a time of 16.21.
Friday, classes 2A and 3A will compete.
Illaria Sabatini leads Berwick’s competitors as she will compete in the 400-meter dash and the 800-meter dash. Sabatini is seeded No. 4 in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.64, while she is the No. 5 seed in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:25.25.
Barton Skylah of Mentorship Academy is Class 3A’s top seed in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:23.24, while Halyn Senegal of St. Louis is the top seed in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.20.
On the boys’ side, Berwick’s Darby Frickey will compete in the 3,200-meter run. He is seeded No. 3 in the event with a time of 9:55.11. Ivan Appleton of St. Louis is the event’s top seed with a time of 9:45.81.
Berwick’s Brett Bearb will compete in the javelin. He enters state as the No. 7 seed after a heave of 148 feet, 6 inches at regional competition. Raheem Roberts of Bogalusa is the No. 1 seed with a mark of 156 feet.
Patterson will be represented at the state meet by Dedrick Gant in the long jump. Gant is the No. 7 seed with a mark of 22 feet, 3.75 inches. Brian Chatman of Madison Prep is the event’s top seed with a jump of 23 feet, 5 inches.
