Lady Hornets defeat GC

GRAND COTEAU _ The Franklin Lady Hornets defeated Sacred Heart of Grand Coteau here Friday by a final score of 53-16 to move into a first place tie with Delcambre and Ascension Episcopal in District 7-2A.
Franklin improved to 7-17 overall and 5-2 in District 7-2A with the win.
The Lady Hornets moved outfront by a 10-5 margin at the end of the first quarter en route to a 24-12 halftime advantage. Franklin extended its lead to an insurmountable 45-12 margin at the end of three quarters before securing the lop-sided 53-8 league victory.
Leading scorer for the Lady Hornets was A’aliyah Smith with 14 points on 4 2-point field goals along with a pair of 3-pointers. Additionally, Kirsten Pedro had 11 points on 2 FGs, 2 3-pointers, and 1 of 2 freethrows. Makhai Fernandez also had 11 points on 4 FGs and 3-10 FTs,
Sta’trail Butler had 10 points on 5 FGs, Jazmin Brent had 5 points on 2 FGs and 1-5 FTs, and Brinesha Jack had 2 points on 1 FG.
The Lady Hornets are now 5-3 in district play and return to the Hornets Nest on Tuesday to play Catholic High of New Iberia. Start time is 5:30 p.m.
