Johnson named 'outstanding' in track and field

DELCAMBRE _ West St. Mary’s Ray Johnson was named one of six “Outstanding” performers in the 2018 District 7-2A boys and girls Track and Field Meet here Wednesday at the Delcambre High School Track.
Johnson was named Outstanding Male Track after running a leg on the West St. Mary Wolfpack first place 4X200 meter team along with second place finishes in the 100, 200 and 4X100.
The Outstanding Male Field honor was awarded to Peter LeBlanc of Catholic High after he finished first in the triple jump and second in the long jump.
The Outstanding Male Performer honor was handed to Javien Broussard of Delcambre as he won three distance races including the 1600, 800 and 3200.
Top individual honors in the girls division included: Outstanding Female Track, Faith Wilson of Ascension Episcopal who finished second in the 1600, 800, 3200 and 3rd in the 400;
Outstanding Female Field, Sydney Smith, Ascension Episcopa1, 1st in the long jump, triple jump, high jump; Outstanding Female Performer, Tiffany LeBlanc, Catholic High, 1st in the 1600, 800, 3200,2nd in the 4X400.
In the boys’ division, Catholic High of New Iberia won the 2018 District 7-2A meet with 136 points. Delcambre finished second with 135 points, followed by Franklin (90), Ascension Episcopal (88), West St. Mary (64), Loreauville (20 and Jenerette (19).
In the girls’ division, Catholic High bested the field with 155 total points. Ascension Episcopal was second with 148 points followed by Delcambre (111), West St. Mary (46), Franklin (38), Academy of the Sacred Heart (32), Jeanerette (24) and Loreauville (3).
Top finishers for the West St. Mary Wolfpack included: 4X200 meter, first, (Azylan Brown, Tristian Harris, Ray Johnson, Daylon Richard), first, 1:32.48; Ray Johnson, 100, second, 11.41; Ray Johnson, 200, 2nd, 23.24; 4X100 (Harris, Brown, Johnson, Pierre), second, 44.66; Tristian Harris, 300 meter hurdles, 2nd, 43.93; 4X400 (Richard Bob, Azylan Brown, Taylun Druilhet, Tylan Druilhet), second, 3:42.77; Tylan Druilhet, 800, third, 2:13.03 and Terrell Joseph, 4th, 19.12.
Franklin’s top winner included: Zariq Perry, 110 meter hurdles, first, 17.85; Zariq Perry, high jump, first, 5-08; 4x100 (Malik King, Jaylon Robinson, Kentrell Louis and Jarius Boyd), first, 44.40; Gabriel McCurtis, 800, second, 2:11.79; 4x200 (Malik King, Jaylon Robinson, Gabriel McCurtis, Kentrell Louis), second, 1:33.20; Roy Jackson, shot put, second, 43-04; Roy Jackson, discus, second, 135-03; Malik King, 200, third, 23.39; Braydon Ward, HJ, third, 5_06; Malik King, 100, 4th, 11.62 and 4x400 (Jaylon Robinson, Gabriel McCurtis, Kentrell Louis, Cahyman Wingate), fourth, 3:48.57.
Top finishers for the West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack were: Jasmine Boyd, TJ, second, 31-05; Brandy Washington, 300 hurdles, 52.46; Brandy Washington, 100 hurdles, third, 18.22; 4x200 meter relay, J’Iana Abraham, Braesha Alexander, Kieontae Declouet, Takylan Hamilton), third, 1:51.49; Takylan Hamilton, discus, third, 84-05; 4x100 meter relay (Braesha Alexander, Kieontae Declouet, Takylan Hamilton, Adacea Mitchell), fourth, 52.90; and 4x400 meter relay (J’Iana Abraham, Braesha Alexander, Jasmine Boyd, Dawana Collins), fourth, 4:54.52.
The Franklin Lady Hornets top finishers included: 4x100 meter relay (Ty Coleman, Bri’Neasha Jack, Alkia Robinson, Makhia Fernandez), first, 52.40; Makhia Fernandez, LJ, second, 29-03 and Ty Coleman, javelin, fourth, 88-09.
The top four finishers in each event will advance to the regional meet.
The Class 2A, Region II track and field meet will be held at the New Iberia Senior High School on Wednesday.
