Central Catholic grad will bowl in NCAA tournament
Emily Price, a 2020 graduate of Central Catholic High School in Morgan City, along with her bowling teammates at Alabama State University are headed to Lansing, Michigan, for regional play in the 2022 NCAA Women’s Bowling National Tournament.
They qualified for the NCAA tournament by winning the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship during tournament play March 25-27 in Arlington, Texas. The Lady Hornets (92-47) earned an automatic bid to the tournament by virtue of the SWAC win.
The SWAC tournament championship will be aired at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday on ESPNU.
Alabama State will face No. 3 national seed Vanderbilt in the opening round of the regional at 9 a.m. Friday. The Commodores, the Southland Bowling League champions, join two other members from their conference — Arkansas State and Youngstown State (who will face each other in the opening round) — in the region.
The four regions will determine a single regional champion by double-elimination, a format that includes traditional and Baker games, and if necessary, a best-of-seven Baker contest to break a tie. The four regional winners will advance to Columbus, Ohio, on April 15-16 to determine the 2022 national champion.
Alabama State and Vanderbilt have met 10 times since 2012 with the Commodores holding an 8-2 lead, including a 988-873 victory in March 2022.
