Another tough night for east St. Mary football
Two east St. Mary football teams will be hoping this week that homecomings will jumpstart their 2026 seasons.
The four teams on this end of the parish have played seven games so far, and only Berwick has a win. The Panthers beat Morgan City on opening night.
In Week 2, Loreauville beat Central Catholic 41-12; St. Edmund outdistanced Morgan City, 44-6; Hanson Memorial emerged with a 20-14 win over Berwick; Patterson fell 51-0 to Central Lafourche; Jeanerette topped West St. Mary 16-12; Centerville defeated Houma Christian 30-22; and Franklin fell 57-0 at Lafayette High.
In this week’s Friday games, 0-2 Morgan City hosts 1-1 Carroll for homecoming; 0-2 Patterson’s homecoming game is against 1-1 West St. Mary; 0-2 Central Catholic travels to 0-3 East Iberville; 1-1 Berwick will be at 1-1 Franklin; and 1-1 Centerville travels to 0-2 Oberlin.
On Thursday, 1-1 Hanson Memorial will host 0-2 Gueydan.
St. Edmund 44,
Morgan City 6
Morgan City’s emerging big-play combination, quarterback Jonny Lopez to wide receiver Gerrin Hayes, struck for a 52-yard TD with 3:53 left in the second quarter.
But by then, St. Edmund had piled up all 44 of its points.
The leaders were Nathan Driggs with 10 carries for 112 yards and three touchdowns.
Carson Simon rushed four times for 57 yards and a score.
Bryer Guillory caught a 16-yard TD pass from Camdyn Loewer, and Cooper Berzas got his TD on a 23-yard run.
For Morgan City, Lopez hit on two of 11 passes for 66 yards. Tyler Carbin hit on four of five passes for 26 yards. Hayes had all six receptions for 92 yards and the lone touchdown.
The Tigers have yet to locate a consistent ground game. They netted only 21 yards on 20 carries, despite a 57-yard rushing performance by Kade Allen.
