Patterson High School Lumberjacks kept the Tioga Indians on their toes Wednesday night as the local team took a 44-39 loss in the 5-4A St. Martinville Holiday Shoot-Out. Williams scores 16 in PHS loss to Tioga, 44-39

The Patterson High School Lumberjacks kept the Tioga Indians on their toes during opening round play Wednesday night as the local team took a 44-39 loss in the 5-4A St. Martinville Holiday Shoot-Out.
Tioga took a sizeable lead in the first quarter with a 16-8 lead. But the ’Jacks bounced back in the second quarter, outscoring the Indians 11-3 to tie the game at 19-19 by halftime.
At the end of the third quarter, the ’Jacks had the lead by three, 32-29. Tioga got hot on the boards in the fourth and put up 15 points to Patterson’s seven, resulting in a final score of 44-39.
Scoring almost half of the Lumberjacks’ points was Elijah Williams with 16. Also contributing on the boards were Tyrone Tillman with seven points, Kai Schexnayder had five, Dajon Richard and Louis Jones each contributed four points, and James Butler had three.
The loss puts the 8-3A ’Jacks’ record at 6-4. Tioga, 3-4A, is now 16-4. Tournament play continues Thursday night.
Also Thursday, the Central Catholic Eagles will play in the E.D. White tournament in Thibodaux and the Berwick Panthers will play in the North Vermilion tournament.
The Morgan City Tigers’ game against Westgate that was set for Friday has been canceled. The next game on the schedule is at home against White Castle at 7 p.m. Jan. 3.
On the girls’ side, the Lady Eagles will be in action at 6 p.m. Friday at home against Hanson Memorial, the Lady Panthers are on the road Jan. 2 as they take on crosstown district rivals the Patterson High School Lumberjills at 6 p.m. while the Lady Tigers’ next action will be at home Jan. 4 against Destrehan.
