Hebert no-hits Pearl River as MCHS wins 9-0

Morgan City High School pitcher Kennedy Hebert tossed a no-hitter, and the team’s offense scored at least a run in every at bat as No. 3 Morgan City defeated No. 30 Pearl River, 9-0 in Class 4A first-round playoff action in Morgan City Saturday.
Hebert pitched all seven innings and surrendered two walks but fanned 13.
Offensively, Morgan City scored a run in the bottom of the first on an error at shortstop and added two in the second on Hebert’s double to the leftfield wall for a 3-0 advantage.
Morgan City (24-3) scored a run in the third on McKenzie Smith’s infield single to shortstop that scored Hannah Prado, another in the fourth on an error in right field on a fly ball hit by Hebert that scored Gracie Verrett and a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Reilee Bailey to centerfield that scored Matti Rivere.
Morgan City concluded the scoring in the bottom of the sixth with three runs. Hebert drove in Allie Vincent on a single to centerfield, another run scored on Rivere’s sacrifice fly to centerfield, while Scottie Metrejean scored the game’s final run on an error by the centerfielder.
The Lady Tigers outhit Pearl River, 12-0.
Hebert led Morgan City with a 2-for-4 performance with a double, three RBIs, two stolen bases and a run. Other top Morgan City offensive contributors included Smith, 2-for-4, two RBIs and a stolen base; Vincent, 2-for-2, a stolen base and two runs; and Prado, 2-for-3, two doubles and two runs; Rivere, 1-for-3, a double, an RBI and a run; and Bailey, an RBI.
Morgan City will continue postseason play at home against the winner of No. 14 Northwood Shreveport and No. 19 Assumption. That game will be played Tuesday.
