CCHS sweeps doubleheader with Ascension Episcopal

Central Catholic swept a District 7-1A doubleheader with Ascension Episcopal Thursday in Youngsville by scores of 16-1 and 20-0.
Both games ended in the third inning due to the 15-run mercy rule.
In game 1, a continuation from an earlier-season game halted due to rain, Central Catholic scored six runs in the first inning.
While each team scored a run, the Lady Eagles scored nine runs in the bottom of the third to end the game.
Haley Fontenot earned the win. In three innings, she tossed a no-hitter as she surrendered just one walk and one earned run but fanned five.
Offensively, Brooke Lipari led Central Catholic with a 3-for-3 performance with a triple, three RBIs, a stolen base and two runs. Other top offensive Central Catholic contributors included Fontenot, 2-for-3, two RBIs, a stolen base and two runs; Hallie Autin, 2-for-3, a stolen base and two runs; and Emma Aucoin, 1-for-2, an RBI and two runs.
In game two, Central Catholic scored 11 runs in the first inning, three in the second and six in the third.
Sara Thomas and Alanni Landry combined for a one-hitter. Thomas earned the win as she surrendered one hit and fanned three in two innings of work. Landry walked three and fanned two in one inning on the mound.
Offensively, Central Catholic collected 15 hits.
Autin led the squad with a 2-for-3 performance with a home run, four RBIs, a stolen base and three runs. Other top Central Catholic offensive contributors included Lipari, 2-for-2, a triple, an RBI, a stolen base and three runs; Kaleigh Navarro, 2-for-2, a double, an RBI and two runs; Kelly Russo, 2-for-2, a double, an RBI and a run; Bailee Lipari, two hits (including a double), an RBI and a run; Rachel Rogers, 1-for-1, two RBIs and a run; Aucoin, 1-for-1, two RBIs and a run; Fontenot, 1-for-1, an RBI, a stolen base and a run; Tori Estay, 1-for-2, two RBIs and a run; Symone Wiggins, 1-for-2, an RBI; and Alaysia Williams, an RBI and two runs
Central Catholic (17-7 overall, 7-3 in district) will return to action this weekend in St. Thomas More’s Catholic Tournament.
Area action rained out
Central Catholic and Morgan City baseball and Patterson and Berwick softball all had their games rained out Thursday.
Central Catholic was scheduled to play Highland Baptist in District 7-1A action Thursday in New Iberia and then Friday here. Now, the teams will play a doubleheader Friday, beginning at 3:15 p.m., in New Iberia.
Berwick softball’s contest at Erath has been rescheduled for Wednesday at Erath at 5 p.m. Because of the schedule change, Berwick’s game against Parkview Baptist that day has been cancelled.
Morgan City was scheduled to play Ellender in a District 7-4A contest in Houma Thursday. Now, the game will be played as part of a doubleheader Saturday in Houma beginning at 11 a.m.
The two teams are scheduled to play Friday in Morgan City at 7 p.m.
Patterson and Kaplan have not been rescheduled.
