Sheriff's Office upgrades Safe Boat
The Daily Review/Ivory Bibbins
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office has a new Safe Boat for the Marine Section of the department. The 25-foot boat, which was renovated by local vendors and members of the Marine Section, is a re-serviced U.S. Coast Guard RBS (response boat small) that now features total scan sonar, forward looking infrared radiometer (FLIR), dual spotlights, shock mitigation seats, a climate controlled cabin, and more. The nearly $300,000 boat, which was fully funded by FEMA’s Port Security Grant broadens the Marine Section’s port security by allowing a better ability to maneuver deeper and rougher waters for better search and rescue capabilities.
