Police: Two people arrested in Feb. 7 MC shooting

They're accused of luring victim to the Greenwood Street area using social media

Morgan City police say two people have been arrested in Texas in connection with the Feb. 7 shooting in the Greenwood Street area. Evidence pointed to an attempt by the female suspect to lure the victim to that area, where the victim was threatened by a man with a gun.

Arrested Friday were:

--Semaj Jaqualyn Douglas, 19, Carmen Street, Patterson, on charges of attempted second-degree murder, armed robbery and armed robbery with a firearm.

--Tanya Sanainoel Toussaint, 20, Easy Street, Franklin, on charges of principal to attempted second-degree murder, armed robbery and solicitation for prostitution.

The Morgan City Police Department Investigations Division answered the call to the shooting, where a victim as approached by a man and woman.

“According to reports, the victim met the female on social media and arranged a meeting at this location when he was approached by a male subject who demanded all his property,” police said in a press release. “The suspect fired his weapon, striking the victim. The victim was treated for moderate injuries at an out-of-area medical facility.”

Investigators began to pursue leads and spoke with witnesses. Douglas and Toussaint were developed as suspects, and that evidence was found tying them to the shooters. Investigators obtained warrants alleging attempted second-degree murder for Douglas and principal to second-degree murder for Toussant.

Investigators learned that the suspects fled the state. It was believed that the suspects had fled and were hiding out in the Beaumont, Texas, area.

Chief Chad M. Adams and investigators feared the couple's action would continue possibly using social media to lure unsuspecting victims to an isolated area where they would rob victims and possibly kill someone. Investigators joined The Beaumont Police Department and the United States Marshals Service in tracking down the fugitives.

Adams and the Morgan City Police Department announced that with the assistance of the Beaumont Police Department and U.S Marshals Service the fugitives are in custody after being located in a residence in Beaumont. Douglas and Toussaint are incarcerated in Beaumont and are awaiting extradition proceedings Morgan City.

Adams commended the investigators at the Morgan City Police Department Investigations Division “on their tireless efforts in identifying and apprehending Douglas and Toussaint,” the press release said.

Adams would also thanked the Beaumont Police Department and the Marshals Service for their collaborative effort in the apprehension of the suspects. The investigation continues, police said.
