S & P Festival wins awards

The leaders of the Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival attended the Louisiana Association of Fairs and Festivals Convention Feb. 22-25 at the Crowne Plaza in Baton Rouge. St. Mary AARP holds meeting Feb. 5
St. Mary Parish AARP Chapter 4435 held its monthly meeting on Feb. 5 at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center, home of St. Mary AARP, in Morgan City.
Prior to the meeting, members and guests were entertained with dance music at 4 p.m. followed by bingo until 6:15 p.m.
The meeting and meal sponsors for February were Twin City Funeral Home and Patterson State Bank. Attendees were served a meal of chili and crackers. The meal was prepared by the cooking team of Mac McNemar and Lonnie LaBouve.
Ryan Yager, Twin City Funeral Home manager, spoke to AARP's membership about the services provided and introduced the members of his staff.
Also addressing the membership was Isabella Lodrigue of the Berwick High School Interact Club. She invited members to the Feb. 27 “Sit & Get Fit” intergenerational presentation at the Berwick Civic Complex that will feature “fun music and exercise tips for senior citizens,” she said. Accompanying Lodrigue was fellow club members Leah Domangue and Luke Orlando.
The intergenerational gathering is hosted by the Interact Club, St. Mary Council on Aging and the Town of Berwick.
Birthday and anniversary celebrants were recognized at the meeting. The cake was donated by M C Bank.
Police: Woman caught with drugs after complaint
A 52-year-old Morgan City woman was caught with marijuana believed to be destined for illegal sales after Morgan City police responded to narcotics complaint, Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Tina Collier, 52, of South Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:59 p.m. Monday on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting an officer by giving false information and on a warrant charging her with failure to comply with the terms of drug court.
Narcotics division police responded to a home in the area of South Railroad Avenue in regard to a narcotics complaint. Investigators arrived, and Collier was eventually identified. Collier provided investigators with a false name upon initial contact, Blair said.
Collier was found to be in possession of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia, Blair said. Police found evidence that the suspected marijuana was destined to be sold in illicit sales, Blair said. Collier also had an arrest warrant through 16th Judicial District Court. Collier was jailed.
Blair reported the following arrests:
—Curtis Ray, 28, of Duke Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:34 p.m. Monday on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and obstruction of justice.
Narcotics division investigators responded to a home in the area of Duke Street in regard to a narcotics complaint. Investigators arrived, and Ray was identified.
Ray was observed with suspected marijuana. When Ray noticed the police, he began to ingest the suspected marijuana, Blair said. Ray was in possession of more suspected marijuana. Police found evidence that some of the suspected marijuana Ray possessed was intended to be sold in illicit sales, Blair said. Ray was jailed.
—Christopher H. Carbins, 51, of Joseph Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:34 a.m. Monday on a charge of illegal possession of a stolen firearm.
Patrol officers responded to the area of La. 182 in regard to a stranded motorist. Officers arrived, and Carbins was identified as an occupant of the vehicle. The officer observed a firearm, Blair said.
The firearm was secured due to the occupants going in and out of the vehicle. The firearm was found and confirmed to be stolen and had been reported through the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, Blair said. Carbins was jailed.
—Aketa R. Francis, 25, of Egle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:54 a.m. Monday on a warrant for three counts of failure to appear for arraignment Jan. 23, 2017.
Francis was located and arrested in the area of Marguerite Street on active arrest warrants held by the 6th Ward Morgan City Court. Francis was transported to the Morgan City Jail where she was booked and incarcerated.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Scott Anslum reported his office made the following arrests in the parish’s east end:
—Danny Savoie, 40, of Prairie Road Circle in Centerville, was arrested at 5:48 p.m. Saturday on a charge of simple battery.
—Daniel Collette, 17, of Prairie Road Circle in Centerville, was arrested at 5:45 p.m. Saturday on a charge of simple assault.
A deputy responded to a call for service regarding a fight in progress on Prairie Road Circle. The deputy spoke with several subjects at the location and found evidence that Savoie and Collette were involved in an argument. The deputy found that Collette threw a knife at Savoie and that Savoie shot Collette in the boot with a BB gun during the altercation, Anslum said.
Neither sustained injuries from the fight. Both were released on summonses to appear in court May 2.
—Cesal Wiltz Jr., 36, of Neuville Anthony Street in St. Martinville, was arrested at 11:55 p.m. Saturday for operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. A deputy responded to a call for service about a reckless driver on U.S. 90 in Bayou Vista. The deputy located the suspect vehicle in Patterson and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy identified the driver as Wiltz and found that he was driving with a suspended license, Anslum said.
Wiltz was released on a summons to appear in court May 2.
—Billy Farnham, 33, of Rose Lane in Berwick, was arrested at 11:54 a.m. Sunday on a warrant for failure to appear and on charges of possession of a clonazepam, possession of tramadol with intent to distribute, possession of alprazolam and possession of methamphetamine.
—Hanna Barker, 34, of Rose Lane in Berwick, was arrested at 11:54 a.m. Sunday on a charge of possession of marijuana.
A deputy responded to a call for service regarding a male and female subject involved in illegal drug activity on La. 182 in Bayou Vista.
The deputy located two subjects fitting the description on Canal Road and stopped to speak with them.
The man quickly ran to the rear of the police unit. The deputy identified the male subject as Farnham and the female subject as Barker.
While speaking with them, the deputy learned that Barker had marijuana in her purse and recovered a bag of the substance, Anslum said.
The deputy also located a paper towel containing pills where Farnham had been standing behind the police unit. Farnham was also wanted on the active warrant.
Farnham was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set. Barker was released on a summons to appear in court May 2.
—Jonathan Scott, 47, of Diane Lane in Patterson, was arrested at 1:38 p.m. Sunday on charges of domestic abuse battery-strangulation and criminal damage to property.
A deputy responded to a report of a battery in progress on Diane Lane in Patterson. Through the course of the investigation, the deputy found evidence that Scott grabbed a female victim around the neck, Anslum said.
The deputy also found that Scott took the victim’s phone and smashed it.
Scott was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.
—Cotina Batiste, 35, of Patterson, was arrested at 6:57 p.m. Sunday on charges of possession of a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance, three counts of child desertion, obstruction of justice, three counts of illegal use of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a person under 17 and three counts of contributing to the delinquency of juveniles.
—Marcus White, 25, of Vaughn Lane in Patterson, was arrested at 7 p.m. Sunday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of license plate not on display, improper turn and failure to give required signal, operating a vehicle without a driver’s license, and failure to honor written promise to appear.
A deputy responded to call for service regarding the welfare of several juveniles left inside a vehicle in the Bayou Vista Walmart parking lot.
The deputy located three juveniles in the car and smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, Anslum said. The deputy spoke with White and located the active warrant for his arrest.
While attempting to locate the children’s guardian, Batiste, the deputy learned that she was hiding in another vehicle in the parking lot in an attempt to avoid deputies, Anslum said.
Through the course of the investigation, the deputy also found evidence that Batiste attempted to get one of the juveniles to discard marijuana from the vehicle. The deputy recovered a bottle containing marijuana inside the car, Anslum said.
Batiste was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.
—Margarito Rodriguez, 42, of Lake Palourde Road in Amelia, was arrested at 6:20 p.m. Sunday on warrants for failure to appear on charges of operating a vehicle without lawful presence in the United States and general speed law violation.
A deputy stopped to assist a motorist stopped on the side of the roadway on U.S. 90 Frontage Road in the Jeanerette area. The deputy identified one of the occupants of the vehicle as Rodriguez and located an active warrant for his arrest. Rodriguez was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.
—Sydney Bassa, 22, of Roderick Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:22 p.m. Thursday on charges of improper lane usage and possession of a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance (synthetic cannabinoids).
Narcotics detectives patrolling Berwick observed a vehicle cross into a turning lane then back into the lane of travel. Detectives conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Bassa.
Detectives smelled the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Detectives located a synthetic cannabinoids cigar in a cigarette pack inside the car, Anslum said.
Bassa was released on a summons to appear in court May 2.
—Devon Marsh, 25, of Siracusaville, was arrested at 12:25 p.m. Friday on a charge of resisting an officer and on a warrant charging him with aggravated battery.
The warrant was issued following an investigation earlier this month into a complaint of a battery in Siracusaville. The deputy found evidence that Marsh used a piece of rope to choke a male victim, Anslum said.
A narcotics detective went to Marsh’s address to locate him on the warrant. The detective observed Marsh on the front porch and ordered him multiple times to walk towards him. Marsh fled into the home, out the back door, and over a fence, the sheriff said.
A patrol deputy waiting nearby located Marsh hiding behind a mobile home. Marsh was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Marsh was released on $6,500 bail.
—Ashton Martinez, 18, of Aristile Road in Bayou L’Ourse, was arrested at 5:24 p.m. on a City Court of Morgan City warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of marijuana.
A narcotics detective monitoring traffic on U.S. 90 in Morgan City observed a vehicle speeding and conducted a traffic stop. The detective identified the driver as Martinez and located the active warrant for his arrest. Martinez was cited for speeding. Martinez was then transported to Morgan City Police Department jail for booking.
—Kevin Pierre, 21, of Hickory Street in Patterson, was arrested at 10:13 p.m. Friday on a City of Patterson mayor’s court warrant for failure to appear on the charge of speeding.
A narcotics detective came into contact with Pierre on Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista and located the active warrant for his arrest. The detective transported Pierre to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.
—Tanner Theriot, 18, of Stephensville Road in Stephensville, was arrested at 11:22 p.m. Friday for possession of a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance (marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A narcotics detective conducting a security check at a business in Bayou Vista observed a vehicle with a broken brake light.
The deputy identified the driver as Theriot. While speaking with Theriot, the deputy received consent to search the vehicle and located a bag of marijuana and a cigar pack inside the car, Anslum said.
Theriot was released on a summons to appear in court May 2.
—Stephanie Yaris, 34, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:22 a.m. Saturday on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Narcotics detectives conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle identified Yaris as a passenger in the truck. While speaking with Yaris, a detective learned that she was in possession of a pipe used to smoke methamphetamine.
The detective recovered the item. Yaris was released on a summons to appear in court May 2.
—Joseph Dugas, 34, of Neptune Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:34 a.m. Monday on a charge of unauthorized use of a moveable. A deputy investigated a call for service regarding a vehicle that went missing from a location on Neptune Street in Bayou Vista.
The deputy found evidence that Dugas attempted to sell the vehicle, which did not belong to him, and that Dugas had the vehicle removed, Blair said. Dugas was booked into parish jail and then released on $3,500 bail. The case remains under investigation.

—Joshua Waters, 31, of Berwick, was arrested at 10 p.m. Friday on a charge of domestic abuse battery. Bail was set at $100.
—Nathan Williams Jr., 36, of Como Street in Patterson, was arrested at 8:36 p.m. Saturday on charges of operating a vehicle intoxicated, open container and improper lane usage. Williams posted $3,000 bail.
—Katherine Stoute, 25, of Mallard Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:17 a.m. Sunday on a Morgan City Court warrant. Stoute was transferred to the Morgan City Police Department.
—Robin Contreras, 55, of Fourth Street in Berwick, was arrested at 4:11 a.m. Monday on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and red light violation. Contreras posted $3,000 bail.
—Hanna Barker, 34, of Rose Street in Berwick, was arrested at 4:13 p.m. Monday on warrants charging her with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $3,500.
—Ronald Billiot Jr., 35, of River Road in Berwick, was arrested at 7:48 p.m. Monday on charges of criminal trespass and simple battery. Billiot posted $602 bail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Lushawda Zachary, 34, of Wedell Street in Patterson, was arrested at 1:44 p.m. Monday on a charge of suspended driver’s license. Zachary posted $619 bail.

Morgan City woman faces heroin charge
A Morgan City woman faces a heroin possession charge after a traffic stop for improper lighting Sunday, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported.
—Brittany N. Burbante, 27, of Lesley Drive was booked on charges of possession of a Schedule I narcotic (heroin), possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, and on warrants for theft $5,000 to $25,000 and for failure to appear for a July 11 hearing.
—Alix R. Delatte, 25, of Mike Street in Pierre Part, was booked for no insurance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Patrol officers stopped a vehicle driven by Delatte and carrying Burbante about 4:25 p.m. Sunday near Front Street.
According to reports, Delatte and Burbante were found to be in possession of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and Burbante was additionally found to be in possession of suspected heroin.
Burbante was also found to be named in active arrest warrants through the 16th Judicial District Court and Morgan City police, Blair said.
The warrant from the Morgan City police stems from an investigation conducted by patrol officers on Dec. 30.
Burbante is accused of taking items valued at approximately $7,000 from the victim. The investigation continued and evidence was uncovered linking Burbante to the crime. Warrants were prepared for her arrest. Delatte and Burbante were arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where they were booked and incarcerated.
Blair said Morgan City police responded to 121 calls for service beginning Friday and made the following arrests:
—Derwin A. Vining, 39, was arrested at 5:26 p.m. Friday on a warrant for criminal neglect of family.
Blair said Vining was arrested in the area of Brashear Avenue on the active arrest warrant held by the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office. Vining was transported to the Morgan City Jail, where he was booked and incarcerated.
—Ashton Martinez, 18, of Hickory Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:40 p.m. Friday on a warrant for failure to appear to pay a probation fee June 6.
Martinez was located and arrested at the Morgan City Police Department on an active arrest warrant held by the 6th Ward Morgan City Court. Martinez was booked and incarcerated in the Morgan City Jail.
—Derrick W. Hayes, 43, of Federal Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:04 p.m. Friday on a criminal damage to property charge.
Patrol officers responded to a residence in the area of Federal Avenue. Hayes allegedly damaged property belonging to the victim. Hayes was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.
—Kimberly M. Jones, 27, of James Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:26 p.m. Friday on a marijuana possession charge and for improper lane usage.
Blair said patrol officers observed a vehicle being operated in an erratic manner in the area of Federal Avenue. A stop was initiated and Jones was identified as the operator of the vehicle. According to reports, Jones was found to be in possession of suspected marijuana. Jones was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where she was booked and incarcerated.
—Ernest R. Harris Jr., 41, of St. Michael Street in Patterson, was arrested at 10:25 p.m. Friday on a drug paraphernalia possession charge.
Patrol officers responded to a local motel in the area of Brashear Avenue in regard to a suspicious subject in the parking lot. Officers arrived and Harris was identified. According to reports, Harris was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. Harris was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.
—Joel Claudio-Deleon, 41, of Mallard Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:04 p.m. Saturday on charges of obstruction of justice and resisting an officer.
Patrol officers responded to a local business in the area of La. 182 in regard to a suspicious subject in the parking lot. Officers arrived and Claudio-Deleon was identified. According to reports, Claudio-Deleon fled the area on a bicycle. He was apprehended a short time later and observed ingesting suspected narcotics to avoid detection, Blair said.
Officers attempted to retrieve the evidence when Claudio-Deleon resisted. Claudio-Deleon was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail, where he was booked and incarcerated.
—Jesus Hernandez-Leon, 20, of West Syls Lane in Amelia, was arrested at 1:49 a.m. Saturday on charges of second-offense driving while intoxicated and improper turn.
Patrol officers observed a vehicle being operated in the area of La. 182 negotiate an improper turn. The vehicle was also observed running over a curb when entering a parking lot.
A stop was initiated and Hernandez-Leon was identified as the operator of the vehicle, Blair said.
According to reports, Hernandez-Leon was found to be in an intoxicated state. Hernandez-Leon performed poorly on standardized field sobriety test, Blair said.
Hernandez-Leon was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail for chemical testing, which he submitted to, registering .213 grams percent blood alcohol content. Hernandez-Leon was booked into the Morgan City Jail and incarcerated.
—Jessica L. Fears, 33, of Roderick Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9 a.m. Saturday on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of a protective order.
—Robert Norris, 28, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 9 a.m. Saturday on a marijuana possession charge.
Patrol officers responded to the area of Roderick Street in regard to a disturbance. Officers arrived when Fears and Norris were identified. According to reports, Fears was found to be in possession of suspected drug paraphernalia and Norris was found to be in possession of suspected marijuana.
Fears was found to be in possession of a firearm, Blair said. Records indicate that Fears currently held a protective order against her, which prohibits her from possessing a firearm. Fears and Norris were arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where they were booked and incarcerated.
—Rebecca Martin, 45, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:01 p.m. Saturday on charges of disturbing the peace while intoxicated.
Patrol officers responded to the area of Railroad Avenue in regard to a disturbance. Officers arrived and Martin was identified. Martin was found to be in an intoxicated state, Blair said.
Martin was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where she was booked and incarcerated.
—Lavontre Johnson, 19, of Sixth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:57 p.m. Saturday on five counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and disturbing the peace.
Patrol officers responded to a local motel in the area of Brashear Avenue in regard to a disturbance.
Officers arrived and Johnson was identified. According to reports, Johnson was involved in a verbal altercation when he allegedly brandished a firearm and began to threaten several victims. Johnson was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.
—Patsy Durocher, 33, of Missouri Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:22 p.m. Saturday on a charge of driving under suspension.
Patrol officers responded to the area of La. 70 in regard to a crash. Officers arrived and Durocher was identified as one of the parties involved, Blair said.
According to reports, Durocher’s Louisiana driver’s license was found to be under suspension. Durocher was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where she was booked and incarcerated.
—Brandon M. Collier, 22, of Orange Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:49 p.m. Saturday on charges of driving under suspension and improper lighting.
Patrol officers observed a vehicle being operated in the area of Freret Street with improper lighting. A stop was initiated and Collier was identified as the operator of the vehicle, Blair said.
According to reports, Collier’s Louisiana driver’s license was found to be under suspension. Collier was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.
—Isaac F. Huntley, 54, of Oriole Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:17 a.m. Sunday on charges of first-offense driving while intoxicated, improper lighting and improper lane usage.
Patrol officers observed a vehicle being operated in the area of La. 182 in an erratic manner and without proper lighting. A stop was initiated and Huntley was identified as the operator of the vehicle, Blair said.
According to reports, Huntley was found to be in an intoxicated state. Huntley performed poorly on standardized field sobriety test. Huntley was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail for chemical testing to which he refused to submit. Huntley was booked into the Morgan City Jail and incarcerated.
—Katherine V. Stoute, 25, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:39 a.m. Sunday on warrants for failure to appear to pay a probation fee and for failure to pay a fine.
Stoute was located and arrested at the Berwick Police Department on active arrest warrants held by the 6th Ward Morgan City Court. Stoute was transported to the Morgan City Jail where she was booked and incarcerated.
—Brian K. Johnson, 24, of Byron Avenue, Baton Rouge, was arrested at 1:03 p.m. Sunday on charges of possession of a firearm by a felon and obstruction of justice.
Patrol officers initiated a stop on a vehicle in the area of Victor II Boulevard for speeding. Johnson was identified as an occupant of the vehicle.
According to reports, Johnson was found to be in possession of a firearm. Records indicate that Johnson is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to him being a convicted felon. Evidence was also uncovered that Johnson ingested suspected marijuana during the stop destroying the evidence, Blair said.
Johnson was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.
—Lindsey Fernandez, 31, of Delmar Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:52 p.m. Sunday on a warrant alleging domestic abuse battery.
Fernandez was located and arrested at the Morgan City Police Department on an active arrest warrant held by the Morgan City police. The warrant stems from an investigation conducted by patrol officers on Oct. 15 when Fernandez allegedly committed a battery on the victim. Fernandez had fled the scene before officers arrived, therefore warrants were prepared for her arrest, Blair said.
Fernandez was booked into the Morgan City Jail and incarcerated.
—Wanya M. Francis, 23, of La. 27 in Dequincy, was arrested at 11:04 p.m. Sunday on charges of aggravated flight from an officer, resisting an officer, no driver’s license, improper turning, criminal trespassing and reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and on a probation and parole warrant.
—Joseph A. Cagnolatti, 22, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:10 a.m. Monday on charges of second-offense marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia, and on warrants for illegal carrying of a weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and obstruction of justice.
Patrol officers observed a vehicle being operated in the area of Myrtle Street negotiate an improper turn. Officers attempted to initiate a stop when the vehicle fled. The vehicle traveled at speeds and in a manner showing no regard to public safety, Blair said.
The vehicle crashed into a utility pole in the area of Redwood Street.
Francis was identified as the operator of the vehicle and fled on foot, Blair said.
A chase ensued when Francis was apprehended a short time later in the area of Bernice Street.
Reports indicate that Francis did not possess a valid Louisiana driver’s license and was named in an active arrest warrant through probation and parole.
Cagnolatti was identified as an occupant of the vehicle.
According to reports, Cagnolatti was found to be in possession of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Cagnolatti also was named in active arrest warrants through the Morgan City police.
The warrants stem from an investigation conducted by patrol officers Dec. 10 when Cagnolatti allegedly discarded two handguns in the area of Barrow Street
Cagnolatti is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to being a convicted felon.
The investigation continued and warrants were prepared for Cagnolatti’s arrest.
Francis and Cagnolatti were arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where they were booked and incarcerated.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Scott Anslum reported the following arrests:
Albert Vincent Jr., 53, of 135 Parker St., New Iberia, was arrested Friday at 5:10 p.m. on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of marijuana.
Vincent was transported from Iberia Parish by the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking on the warrant. Vincent was released on a $2,500 bond.
Brittany Martin, 29, of 140 Village Lane, Morgan City, was arrested Friday at 10:14 p.m. on charges of child desertion, possession of Schedule I synthetic cannabinoids, misuse of toxic vapors, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a person under 17, contributing to the delinquency of juveniles and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A deputy responded to a medical emergency at a residence in Amelia after St. Mary 911 received a call from a child that an adult female was in medical distress. The woman, identified as Martin, was transported to Teche Regional Medical Center for evaluation. During the deputy’s investigation, it was found that Martin smoked synthetic cannabinoids from a makeshift pipe. Martin and the child were the only two occupants in the residence at the time of the incident. The pipe used to smoke the drug was recovered from the residence. Upon her release from the hospital, Martin was taken into custody on the charges. Synthetic cannabinoids were also located on Martin’s person. Martin was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.
Benjamin Picard, 24, of 330 Eves St., Jeanerette, was arrested Saturday at 3:31 a.m. on the charge of operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.
A deputy stopped to assist a motorist stopped on the side of the roadway on La. 182 in the Baldwin area. The deputy identified the driver as Picard, learned that he had run out of gas, and found that he was driving with a suspended license. Picard was released on a summons.
Shaquille Anderson, 24, of 117 Barbusse Road, Scott, was arrested Saturday at 3:34 a.m. on the charge of operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.
A deputy stopped to assist a motorist stopped on the side of the roadway on US 90 in the Shadyside area. The deputy identified the driver as Anderson, learned that one of the vehicle’s tires went flat, and found that he was driving with a suspended license. Anderson was released on a summons.
Danny Savoie, 40, of 1430 Prairie Road Circle, Centerville, was arrested Saturday at 5:48 p.m. on the charge of simple battery.
Daniel Collette, 17, of 1430½ Prairie Road Circle, Centerville, was arrested Saturday at 5:45 p.m. on the charge of simple assault.
A deputy responded to a call for service regarding a fight in progress on Prairie Road Circle. The deputy spoke with several subjects at the location and found evidence that Savoie and Collette were involved in an argument. The deputy found that Collette threw a knife at Savoie and that Savoie shot Collette in the boot with a BB gun during the altercation. Neither sustained injuries from the fight. Both were released on summonses.
Michael Ryder, 49, of 208 Sennette St., Centerville, was arrested Saturday at 11:16 p.m. on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and obstruction of a highway.
A deputy responded to a call for service regarding a vehicle stopped in the roadway on Kemper Road in Franklin. The deputy located a truck parked in the roadway. The driver appeared to be asleep at the wheel with the engine running and the vehicle in drive. The deputy woke the driver, identified him as Ryder, and smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from him. The deputy conducted a standardized field sobriety test for Ryder. Ryder performed the test poorly. He later registered a 0.136 grams percent blood alcohol concentration. The deputy transported Ryder to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Ryder was released on a $3,000 bond.
Cesal Wiltz Jr., 36, of 1131 Neuville Anthony St., St. Martinville, was arrested Saturday at 11:55 p.m. on the charge of operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.
A deputy responded to a call for service about a reckless driver on US 90 in Bayou Vista. The deputy located the suspect vehicle in Patterson and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy identified the driver as Wiltz and found that he was driving with a suspended license. Wiltz was released on a summons.
Billy Farnham, 33, of 1811 Rose Lane, Berwick, was arrested Sunday at 11:54 a.m. on a warrant for failure to appear, and charges of possession of Schedule IV clonazepam, possession of Schedule IV tramadol with intent to distribute, possession of Schedule IV alprazolam and possession of Schedule II methamphetamine.
Hanna Barkar, 34, of 1811 Rose Lane, Berwick, was arrested Sunday at 11:54 a.m. on the charge of possession of Schedule I marijuana.
A deputy responded to a call for service regarding a male and female subject involved in illegal drug activity on La. 182 in Bayou Vista. The deputy located two subjects fitting the descriptions on Canal Road and stopped to speak with them. The male subject quickly ran to the rear of the police unit. The deputy identified the male subject as Farnham and the female subject as Barkar. While speaking with them, the deputy learned that Barkar had marijuana in her purse and recovered a bag of the substance. The deputy also located a paper towel containing pills where Farnham had been standing, behind the police unit. Farnham was also wanted on the active warrant. Farnham was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set. Barkar was released on a summons.
Jonathan Scott, 47, of 108 Diane Lane Lot 34, Patterson, was arrested Sunday at 1:38 p.m. on charges of domestic abuse battery strangulation and criminal damage to property.
A deputy responded to a report of a battery in progress on Diane Lane in Patterson. Through the course of the investigation, the deputy found evidence that Scott grabbed a female victim around the neck. The deputy also found that Scott took the victim’s phone and smashed it. Scott was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.
Cotina Batiste, 35, of 327 Charlotte Drive, Patterson, was arrested Sunday at 6:57 p.m. on charges of possession of Schedule I marijuana, three counts child desertion, obstruction of justice, three counts illegal use of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a person under 17 and three counts contributing to the delinquency of juveniles.
Marcus White, 25, of 513 Vaughn Lane, Patterson, was arrested Sunday at 7:00 p.m. on a warrant for failure to appear on charges of license plate not on display, improper turn and failure to give required signal, operating a vehicle without a driver’s license and fail to honor written promise to appear.
A deputy responded to a call for service regarding the welfare of several juveniles left inside a vehicle in the Bayou Vista Walmart parking lot. The deputy located three juveniles in the car and smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The deputy spoke with White and located the active warrant for his arrest. While attempting to locate the children’s guardian, Batiste, the deputy learned that she was hiding in another vehicle in the parking lot in an attempt to avoid deputies. Through the course of the investigation, the deputy also found evidence that Batiste attempted to get one of the juveniles to discard marijuana from the vehicle. The deputy recovered a bottle containing marijuana inside the car. Batiste was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.
Margarito Rodriguez, 42, of 1323 Lake Palourde Road, Amelia, was arrested Sunday at 6:20 p.m. on a warrant for failure to appear on charges of operating a vehicle without lawful presence in the United States and general speed law violation.
A deputy stopped to assist a motorist stopped on the side of the roadway on US 90 Frontage Road in the Jeanerette area. The deputy identified one of the occupants of the vehicle as Rodriguez and located an active warrant for his arrest. Rodriguez was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.
Sydney Bassa, 22, of 504 Roderick St., Apt. 14, Morgan City, was arrested Thursday at 12:22 p.m. on charges of improper lane usage and possession of Schedule I synthetic cannabinoids.
Narcotics detectives patrolling Berwick observed a vehicle cross into a turning lane then back into the lane of travel. Detectives conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Bassa. Detectives smelled the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Detectives located a synthetic cannabinoids cigar in a cigarette pack inside the car. Bassa was released on a summons.
Devon Marsh, 25, of 1048 Ciro St., Siracusaville, was arrested Friday at 12:25 p.m. on the charge of resisting an officer and on a warrant for aggravated battery.
The warrant was issued following an investigation earlier this month into a complaint of a battery in Siracusaville. The deputy found evidence that Marsh used a piece of rope to choke a male victim. A narcotics detective went to Marsh’s address to locate him on the warrant. The detective observed Marsh on the front porch and ordered him multiple times to walk towards him. Marsh fled into the residence, out the back door, and over a fence. A patrol deputy waiting nearby located Marsh hiding behind a mobile home. Marsh was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Marsh was released on a $6,500 bond.
Ashton Martinez, 18, of 115 Aristile Road, Bayou L’Ourse, was arrested Friday at 5:24 p.m. on a City Court of Morgan City warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of marijuana.
A narcotics detective monitoring traffic on US 90 in Morgan City observed a vehicle speeding and conducted a traffic stop. The detective identified the driver as Martinez and located the active warrant for his arrest. Martinez was cited for speeding. He was then transported Martinez to the Morgan City Police Department jail for booking.
Kevin Pierre, 21, of 1422 Hickory Street, Patterson, was arrested Friday at 10:13 p.m. on a City of Patterson mayor’s court warrant for failure to appear on the charge of speeding. A narcotics detective came into contact with Pierre on Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista and located the active warrant for his arrest. The detective transported Pierre to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.
Tanner Theriot, 18, of 1139 Stephensville Road Lot B, Stephensville, was arrested Friday at 11:22 p.m. on charges of possession of Schedule I marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A narcotics detective conducting a security check at a business in Bayou Vista observed a vehicle with a broken brake light. The deputy identified the driver as Theriot. While speaking with him, the deputy received consent to search the vehicle and located a bag of marijuana and a cigar pack inside the car. Theriot was released on a summons.
Stephanie Yaris, 34, of 1225 Railroad Avenue, Morgan City, was arrested Saturday at 12:22 a.m. on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Narcotics detectives conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle identified Yaris as a passenger in the truck. While speaking with Yaris, a detective learned that she was in possession of a pipe used to smoke methamphetamine. The detective recovered the item. Yaris was released on a summons.
Joseph Dugas, 34, of 201 Neptune St., Bayou Vista, was arrested Monday at 10:34 a.m. on the charge of unauthorized use of a moveable.
A deputy investigated a call for service regarding a vehicle that went missing from a location on Neptune Street in Bayou Vista. The deputy found evidence that Dugas attempted to sell the vehicle that did not belong to him and that Dugas had the vehicle removed. Dugas was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Dugas was released on a $3,500 bond. The case remains under investigation.
Nicole Ross, 28, of 201 Tamperolla Lane, Franklin, was arrested Monday at 3:39 p.m. on two warrants for failure to appear on charges of criminal neglect of family.
A deputy located Ross at her residence on the warrants and transported her to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail is set at $3,006.

Joey Jack, 43, of O’Neal Chube Street, Franklin, was arrested Sunday at 9:34 a.m. on a warrant for the charge of accessory after the fact to armed robbery.
Jack was booked, processed, and transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.
Heather Stone, 37, of Forest Street, Franklin, was arrested Sunday at 11:36 a.m. on a warrant for the charge of unauthorized use of an access card.
Stone was booked, processed, and held with no bond set at the time of press release.
Braylan Hamilton, 34, of Augustine Maze, Franklin, was arrested Sunday at 3:44 p.m. on a warrant for Third Ward City Court for failure to appear on charges of tail lamps, expired driver’s license and no insurance. Hamilton was booked, processed, and released on a $550 bond.
