MARY JANE G. DUROCHER-ROGERS

November 11, 1934 - June 24, 2018
God couldn’t be everywhere, so he invented Mothers (Kipling). One of the greatest Moms He ever created, Mary Jane G. Durocher-Rogers, has passed away. We take comfort that she is no longer suffering earthly troubles and has been welcomed to Heaven by family and friends that passed before her.
Mary Jane was born on November 11, 1934, the youngest of 5 daughters for Lucille and Anatole Guillotte of Franklin, LA. She was raised in a plantation home in the Sterling area. Her older sisters were Ruby, Mamie, Hilda and Lucy.
In 1952, Mary Jane married her sweetheart, Adolph “Poncho” Durocher. They followed the great Catholic traditions of regular worship and a large family with 8 children. A few years after the tragic loss of Poncho, Mary Jane began a new chapter in her life by marrying Henry Rogers in 1980. The family expanded with Henry’s 3 children.
Family get-togethers became a great joy for Mary Jane. Her experience as a cook at Franklin High School came in handy, as she provided excellent meals for a gang so large that they had to eat in shifts. Mary Jane exemplified motherly love of family. And this extended to joining forces with a daughter to help raise one of her grandsons.
In her golden years, Mary Jane took pleasure from sewing, baking cakes for family occasions, playing bingo, taking a few exciting road trips, weekly trips to the beauty parlor, and the occasional outing to the local casino. But, her greatest happiness came from the visits and phone calls from her family and friends.
Those that have passed before Mary Jane include her first husband, Adolph “Poncho” Durocher; her second husband, Henry Rogers; her son, Marvin “Peanut” Durocher; her parents, Anatole Guillotte and Lucille Naquin Guillotte; and sisters, Ruby Louviere, Mamie Fields, Hilda Hawn, and Lucy Walden.
Loved ones that will miss Mary Jane include: son Ronald and daughter-in-law Connie of Charenton, son Robert and daughter-in-law Gisele of Charenton, daughter Tita and son-in-law Jeff Rowell of St. Martinville, son Mark (Toe Doe) and daughter-in-law Mel of Baldwin, daughter Tina (Sugar) and son-in-law Donnie Smith of Houston, daughter Ree Ree and son-in-law Pete Boudreaux of Verdunville, daughter Anna (Tuttie) of Charenton, nephew Dana Walden of Franklin, step-son Jimmy, step-daughters Jackie and Jodie as well as many other nieces and nephews.
18 Grandchildren: Erin and Joshua (Ronald), Rusty and Lindsey (Robert), Melissa, Mary, Katie and TJ (Tita), Courtney, Devan, and Baley, (Mark), Chanda (Peanut), Trey and Dustin (Tina), Cordell (Ree Ree), Mark and Jacob (Anna) and BJ (adopted granddaughter).
27 Great Grandchildren: Victoria and McKenzie (Erin), Ryder and Lennon (Joshua), Ebani and Madix (Lindsey), Paige and Talan (Melissa), Anna Grace and Matthew (Mary), Jaxon (Katie), Drake (Courtney), Cambria and Marley (Devan), Antonio, Noah, Ethan and Sofia (Chanda), Eli, Wyatt and Mia (Cordell), Levi (Mark), Aubry, Bryson, Charlotte, Isabella (TJ) and Dawson (Jacob).
The family appreciates the comfort and support from Franklin HomeCare and Heart of Hospice. In her final weeks, Mary Jane often expressed gratitude for the special attention and loving care from BJ Verret, Luvy Fields, Linda Gant and Gwen Mitchell.
Mary Jane’s family is her legacy. They learned by her example to enjoy life’s little moments, laugh easy and often and always look to help others. There will be a remembrance at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin, LA on Saturday, June 30, at 11:00 a.m., with a gathering of family and friends beginning at 9:00 a.m. and the rosary being prayed at 10:00 a.m. Father Lloyd Benoit will conduct the services. Three arrested in Main Street incident

Franklin Police Chief Sabria McGuire reported three arrests Tuesday in connection with the search warrant served Monday night on Main Street in Franklin.
According to McGuire, Michael Morris Jr., 19, of Talbot Street, Franklin, was arrested Monday at 8:55 p.m., as was previously reported by St. Mary Parish Sheriff Scott Anslum.
Melvina Morris, 49, of Talbot Street, Franklin, was arrested Monday at 7:45 p.m. on the charge of accessory after the fact to attempted first degree murder.
Morris was booked, processed, and held with no bond set at the time of press release.
Davian Burrell, 17, of Ninth Street, Franklin, was arrested Monday at 10:53 p.m. on charges of obstruction of justice and accessory after the fact to attempted first degree murder.
Burrell was booked, processed, and held with no bond set at the time of press release.
McGuire also reported that the three arrests stemmed from an investigation by the Franklin Police Department in regards to several calls of shots fired, over the course of last weekend.
FPD reportedly received information that a vehicle that was involved in one of the shootings was at the residence of 300 Main Street.
The FPD then reportedly applied for a search warrant for that residence and contacted the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office for assistance.
A perimeter of the area was set up, and two subjects were allegedly seen leaving the residence in an attempt to evade police.
Morris Jr., for whose arrest officers had knowledge of multiple active felony warrants, was seen attempting to leave the area by a vehicle driven by Morris.
A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and both subjects were arrested.
The FPD was reportedly able to recover five weapons from the residence, which consisted of four rifles and one shotgun.
McGuire further stated that the investigation continues, as more arrests are pending.

Cajun Search and Rescue advances training, prestige

Cajun Search and Rescue continues to make broad strides on the state and national level.
In fact, the organization has won the confidence and support of not only state officials, but perhaps a gig on television as well.
Commander Toney Wade said CS&R has been training with the Louisiana Fire Marshal’s Office for several years. “We’re one of the only non-governmental team that’s involved with their training,” Wade said. “Their building a state asset team, and we just recently went to Camp Beauregard in Pineville and had a state asset training exercise on a mock earthquake.”
Of course the chances of an earthquake disaster in Louisiana are remote at best, but CS&R dispatches to locations beyond the state lines. “We had rubble piles and worked the dogs on them,” Wade said. “I like doing those exercises (with all task forces in the state) because it brings us together as a team in a crisis.”
Wade said fire marshal equipment is available for use in search and rescue as well, and, “If we have a situation here in St. Mary Parish, it’s another way we can help in making that phone call and getting that equipment here immediately.”
Four members have recently become technical search and rescue specialists; Wade said that allows the team to respond out of state or even out of the country. “Wherever we need to go in times of a national disaster,” he said. “We train a lot for hurricanes, water rescue. We have a ton of equipment, like a high water vehicle, which is a military vehicle that we can drive into 6-8 feet of water and pull people out. We have 23 boats, shallow water boats, to evacuate a flooded town. We’ve been through a lot of shelter operation training. We’re trying to keep it wide-open for what we need here. We get calls all the time from other states asking about our availability, and I tell them we’re available unless we’re needed at home.”
CS&R has been training with the state since 2014 and developed a close relationship. “Being involved with them, for us to use an outside agency would cost us up to $3,000 per person,” Wade said. “Being with the fire marshal’s office now it doesn’t cost us anything. We can better utilize our money for missions or equipment.”
The task force has obtained much equipment over the years, which often impresses other task forces, including a communications center.
There are 112 members across the state, and 13 members/dog teams. “Anywhere in the state, we can have a dog on the ground in an hour,” Wade said.
Some of the dogs are owned by the volunteers, but many are rescue animals.
“We pull dogs from animal shelters and we test them there,” Wade said. “If it looks like they’ll work we pull them out, and if they do make the cut then they’re part of the team…if they don’t then we find a home for them. Adopt them out. So the dogs are getting a second chance either way. With my history in animal cruelty (intervention) we figured, let’s give these dogs a chance. Let’s not throw away animals. We take a lot of pride in that.”
CS&R is working with a television network and filming operations in north Louisiana. “We set up a big training exercise, we’re looking forward to that,” Wade said. “It’s going well.”
Wade concluded, “We’re training to keep St. Mary safe.”
