Sheriff: Unauthorized entry suspect arrested

A 22-year-old Morgan City man was charged with unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling after he allegedly kicked in the door of an Amelia home and went inside.
When a deputy located the suspect nearby, the suspect was in his underwear and appeared disoriented, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Charleston J. Grogan, 22, of Wren Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:50 a.m. Wednesday on charges of unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling, remaining where forbidden, a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of domestic abuse battery and criminal damage to property, and two Morgan City Court warrants for failure to appear and contempt of court.
A sheriff’s office dis-patcher received a 911 call of a person attempt-ing to gain entry into a home in Amelia. The dispatcher remained on the phone with the victim until a deputy arrived at the location and secured the area.
During the investiga-tion, the deputy learned that the suspect began kicking the door of the home and at one point entered the home. The victim pushed the sus-pect out. No injuries were reported.
The deputy located the suspect nearby and identified him as Grogan. The deputy observed that Grogan was in his underwear and appeared disoriented. He was transported to an area hospital for evaluation. Following his release, he was jailed with no bail set.
Hebert reported re-sponding to 40 com-plaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Christine Cantrell, 29, of Fourth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear for a drug court status conference. A correctional officer transported Cantrell from the East Baton Rouge Parish jail to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail is set at $100,000.
—Gilbert Ramagos III, 23, of Grace Street in Siracusaville, was arrested at 8:06 p.m. Tuesday on charges of following too closely, improper lane usage and reckless operation of a vehicle.
—Devon Marsh, 25, of Ciro Street in Sira-cusaville, was arrested at 8:06 p.m. Tuesday on charges of possession of marijuana and violation of a controlled dangerous substance law-drug free zone.
A narcotics section detective patrolling Amelia observed a car following another vehicle too closely on La. 182. The deputy also saw the car swerving across the fog line in an attempt to pass the other vehicle. The deputy then ob-served the car accelerate through railroad crossing arms that were activated and down as a train approached the intersection.
The detective conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Ramagos, and passenger, Marsh. While speaking with the occupants, the detective smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and observed marijuana inside the car. The traffic stop occurred within 2,000 feet of a church.
Ramagos was trans-ported to the St. Mary Parish Law En-forcement Center for booking. He was released on $1,000 bail. Marsh was released on a summons to appear in court June 13.
—John F. Shibley, 49, of Glenwood Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:51 p.m. Tuesday on an Assumption Parish warrant for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. A narcotics detective located Shibley at his home on the warrant. Shibley was jailed with no bail set.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Nelly D. Montoya, 39, of Harbinwood Drive in Norcross, Georgia, was arrested at 3:01 p.m. Tuesday on charges of use of telecommunications device in a school zone and no driver’s license.
Patrolling officers ob-served a driver in the area of Roderick Street operating a cellular device within a school zone. Officers initiated a stop and located Mon-toya, who did not have a valid driver’s license. Montoya was jailed.
—Kevin J. Diggs, 38, of Roy’s Lane in Frank-lin, was arrested at 6 p.m. Tuesday on war-rants for failure to ap-pear for arraignment on charges of no insurance, driving under suspen-sion and failure to ap-pear for arraignment on a charge of obstructing driver’s view.
Diggs was located and arrested at the police department on city court warrants. Diggs was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—James Parramere, 58, of Sixth Street in St. Petersburg, Florida, was arrested at 1:55 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of disturbing the peace. Bail is set at $176.
—Anthony Wood, 18, of River Road in Ber-wick, was arrested at 8:02 p.m. Tuesday on charges of simple crimi-nal damage to property less than $500 and sim-ple battery. Wood posted $3,000 bail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
