Sheriff: Man forcefully resisted detectives during stop

A 41-year-old Bayou Vista man allegedly attempted to forcefully pull away from sheriff’s detectives during a Thursday traffic stop, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Scott Anslum said in a news release.

—Derrick Lovely, 41, of Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista, was arrested on at 6:55 p.m. Thursday on charges of turning movements and required signals violation, two counts of resisting an officer with violence, obstruction of justice, stop signs and yield signs violation, driving on a roadway laned for traffic violation-improper lane usage and driver’s license required.

Narcotics detectives patrolling Bayou Vista saw Lovely driving a vehicle on Southeast Boulevard. Detectives knew Lovely did not have a license to drive, Anslum said.

They also observed that he failed to signal several turns. Detectives initiated a traffic stop. Lovely refused to pull over and continued to drive into a parking lot off Anthony Street and onto U.S. 90 nearly crashing into another vehicle, Anslum said.

Lovely was forced to stop because of traffic in the area. A detective then observed Lovely place a bag of suspected illegal drugs in his mouth, Anslum said.

Detectives ordered Lovely to exit the vehicle multiple times, but Lovely refused, Anslum said. Detectives then removed Lovely from the vehicle. Lovely then attempted to forcefully pull away from detectives before being detained, Anslum said.

Following the investigation, Lovely was jailed with no bail set.

Anslum reported that deputies responded to 44 complaints in the parish.

Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported that officers responded to 41 calls and reported the following arrests:

—Quandon Favors, 29, of Jones Street in Berwick, was arrested at 11:30 a.m. Thursday on warrants charging him with possession of synthetic marijuana and violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance law.

Favors was located and arrested in the area of U.S. 90 on warrants. The warrants stem from an investigation conducted Jan. 26 investigation when narcotics investigators located suspected synthetic marijuana that was linked to Favors, Blair said.

The investigation continued and warrants were prepared for Favors’ arrest. Favors was jailed.

—Lyzette Williams, 48, of Glenwood Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:50 p.m. Thursday on a charge of theft of goods

Williams was located and arrested in the area of Grizzaffi Street on a warrant. The warrant stems from an investigation when patrol officers responded Nov. 2, 2016, to a business in the area of La. 182 in regard to a theft. Officers arrived, and Williams was identified as a suspect. Williams allegedly took items valued at $10.65, Blair said.

Williams had left prior to officers’ arrival. Therefore, warrants were prepared for her arrest. Williams was jailed.

—Dillion P. Burgess, 23, of First Street in Patterson, was arrested at 7:52 p.m. Thursday on a 16th Judicial District Court warrant charging him with two counts of failure to comply with terms and conditions of drug court.

Burgess was located and arrested in the area of La. 70 on a warrant. Burgess was jailed.

—Jeremie M. Paul, 27, of Mallard Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:41 p.m. Thursday on a warrant charging him with failure to appear to pay a fine. Paul was located and arrested in the area of Arenz Street on a city court warrant. Paul was jailed.

—Phillip J. Jordan, 52, of James Street in Siracusaville, was arrested at 9:36 p.m. Thursday on a charge of possession of marijuana.

Narcotics division came in contact with Jordan in the area of Federal Avenue. Jordan was in possession of suspected marijuana, Blair said. Jordan was jailed.

—Kahnie Gaudet, 47, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:38 p.m. Thursday on a charge of domestic abuse battery.

Patrol officers responded to the area of Railroad Avenue in regard to a disturbance. Officers arrived, and Gaudet was identified as one of the people involved. Gaudet allegedly struck the victim during the altercation, Blair said. Gaudet was jailed.

—Arik M. Louviere, 22, of Wytchwood Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:03 p.m. Thursday on a warrant charging him with failure to appear to pay a probation fee. Louviere was located and arrested in the area of Allison Street on a city court warrant. Louviere was jailed.

—Ira J. Grow Jr., 62, of Wytchwood Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:36 p.m. Thursday on a charge of possession of methamphetamine.

—Lynette A. Guidry, 35, of Wytchwood Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:36 p.m. Thursday on a charge of possession of methamphetamine.

Patrol officers responded to the area of Cypress Gardens in regards to a suspicious vehicle. A description of a vehicle was obtained and located in the area a short time later.

A stop was initiated and Grow was identified as the driver. Guidry was identified as an occupant. Grow and Guidry were in possession of suspected methamphetamine, Blair said. Grow and Guidry was jailed.

—Krystal L. Meranta, 28, of Clark Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 2:08 a.m. Friday on a warrant charging her with failure to appear to pay a fine. Meranta was located and arrested in the area of Myrtle Street on a city court warrant. Meranta was jailed.

—Donald R. Engleton, 56, of Bryant Street in Baton Rouge, was arrested at 2:08 a.m. Friday on a warrant charging him with two counts of failure to appear to pay a fine. Engleton was transported from parish jail on a city court warrant. Engleton was jailed.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:

—Ricky Tate, 35, of Irish Bend Road in Franklin, was arrested at 12:25 a.m. Friday on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $1,500.

—Krystal Meranta, 28, of Clark Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 12:25 a.m. Friday on a Morgan City police warrant charging her with resisting an officer. She was transferred to Morgan City Police Department.

—David Moresi Jr., 38, of Kris Kringle Road in Jeanerette, was arrested at 12:25 a.m. Friday on charges of resisting an officer by giving false information, driving under suspension, license plate light required, expired motor vehicle inspection sticker and on a Lafayette Parish warrant charging him with failure to appear for felony theft. Bail was set at $3,100 on the Berwick charges. No bail was set on the warrant.

—Brandon Grant, 35, of Utah Street in Berwick, was arrested at 6:04 p.m. Thursday on charges of open container and DWI second offense. Bail was set at $5,500.

Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:

—Marcus White, 25, of Vaughn Alley in Patterson, was arrested at 3:28 p.m. Thursday on a charge of disturbing the peace-language. White posted $331 bail.

—De’Erin Thomas, 21, of Gen. McArthur Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:28 p.m. Thursday on a charge of disturbing the peace-language. Thomas posted $331 bail.
