Police Reports 3-9-18

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Scott Anslum reported the following arrests:
Christa Mathews, 28, of 7712 La. 182, Franklin, was arrested Wednesday at 10:28 p.m. on charges of improper lane usage, driver must be licensed, possession of Schedule I marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A deputy patrolling the Garden City area observed a vehicle cross over the fog line of La. 182 and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy identified the driver as Mathews and found that she was operating the car without a license. While speaking with her, the deputy smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The deputy located a marijuana cigar, a small bag of marijuana, and 2 packs of cigars. Mathews was released on a summons.
Malcolm Smith, 31, of 529 Orange St., Morgan City, was additionally charged Thursday at 10:33 a.m. on four warrants for failure to appear on various charges of drug offenses and on the charge of theft.
Smith was already incarcerated at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center when a correctional deputy located the active warrants. No bail is set.
Jennifer Bourgeois, 35, of 317 Onstead St., Morgan City, was arrested Thursday at 10:17 am on a warrant on the charge of aggravated battery.
Last month, a deputy investigated a report of a battery that occurred at a business off La. 182 in Bayou Vista. The deputy found that Bourgeois struck a female victim in the head with a beer bottle causing a small cut to the victim’s head. The deputy obtained a warrant for Bourgeois’ arrest and located her at a residence on Park Street in Patterson. Bourgeois was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.
Derek Brown, 26, was additionally charged Thursday at 8:16 p.m. on a warrant for failure to appear on traffic related charges.
Brown was already incarcerated at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center when a correctional deputy located the active warrant. Bail on the warrant is set at $375.
Phillip Begnaud, 34, of 108 Taryn Lane, Franklin, was additionally charged Thursday at 9:33 p.m. on two warrants for failure to appear on traffic related charges.
Begnaud was already incarcerated at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center when a correctional deputy located the active warrants. Bail on the warrants is set at $450.
Franklin Third Ward Marshal Carla Weidenboerner reported the arrest of Laura Newbaker, 34, of 1114 Lee Charles St., Franklin, was arrested Thursday at 1:30 a.m. at her residence on a warrant for failure to appear for arraignment for the Franklin Third Ward City Court on the charge of remaining where forbidden. Franklin marshals made contact with Newbaker at her residence where she was taken into custody and transported to the Franklin Police Department for processing. She was bonded on a $500 cash bond.
