Police: Inmate caught with drug

A 41-year-old woman, who was an inmate at the Morgan City jail, was caught in possession of a drug without a prescription, Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.

—Ginger R. Russell, 41, of Oak Harbor in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:40 p.m. Monday on charges of introduction of contraband into a penal facility and possession of a Legend Drug without a prescription.

Russell was being housed at the Morgan City jail when she was found to be in possession of suspected mirtazapine, Blair said. Russell was jailed.

Blair reported that officers responded to 49 calls and reported the following arrests:

—Travis T. Singleton, 34, of Leona Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:37 p.m. Monday on a warrant charging him with failure to appear for trial. Singleton was located and arrested in the area of Leona Street on a city court warrant. Singleton was jailed.

—Wesley R. Bass, 21, of River Road in Berwick, was arrested at 10:13 p.m. Monday on a warrant charging him with five counts of failure to appear to pay a fine and on a charge of resisting an officer.

Bass was located and arrested in the area of Greenwood Street on city court warrants. While taking Bass into custody, he resisted officers, Blair said. Bass was jailed.

—Corey J. Abshire, 40, of Marshall Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:28 p.m. Monday on a charge of disturbing the peace.

Patrol officers responded to the area of Marshall Street in regard to a disturbance. Officers arrived when Abshire was identified as one of the parties involved. Abshire continued to cause a disturbance after officers arrived, Blair said. Abshire was jailed.

—Darius D. T. Preston, 19, of Richard Street in Baldwin, was arrested at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal use of controlled dangerous substance in the presence of juveniles and required signals.

Patrol officers observed a vehicle negotiate a lane change in the area of Brashear Avenue failing to signal the change. A stop was initiated when Preston was identified as the driver. Preston was in possession of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia, Blair said. A 15-year-old juvenile was in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Preston was arrested jailed.

—Elijah G. Percle, 22, of La. 182 in Patterson, was arrested at 3:38 a.m. Tuesday on charges of flight from an officer and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.

Patrol officers observed a vehicle being operated in the area of U.S. 90 in a reckless manner. Officers were able to catch up to the vehicle which was traveling at over 90 mph in a 60 mph zone. Officers attempted to initiate a stop when the vehicle continued to travel. The vehicle eventually stopped on U.S. 90 when Percle was identified as the driver. Percle was jailed.

Patterson Police Chief Janis Merritt reported the following arrest:

—Brandon M. Hatch, 23, of Susan Street in Patterson, was arrested at 7:45 p.m. Monday on a charge of theft of a firearm and a warrant for another jurisdiction. No bail was set yet.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Scott Anslum reported that deputies responded to 26 complaints in the parish and reported no arrests in east St. Mary Parish.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
