Police: Drunk driver drove around barricade

A drunk driver drove around emergency vehicles that were blocking off an area of Morgan City where officers were investigating a crash, Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.

—Eric F. Geibel, 48, of Onstead Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:42 p.m. Tuesday on charges of DWI first offense and disregarding barricades, signs and signals.

Officers were investigating a vehicle crash at the intersection of La. 182 and Florence Street with emergency vehicles blocking off the area. While officers were investigating the crash, a vehicle drove around the emergency vehicles, Blair said.

A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle, and the driver was identified as Geibel, who appeared intoxicated and performed poorly on a field sobriety test, Blair said. Geibel registered 0.12 grams-percent blood alcohol content on a chemical test. Geibel was jailed.

Blair reported that officers responded to 40 calls and reported the following arrest:

—Dakota A. Daigle, 26, of Second Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:58 p.m. Wednesday on warrants for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Daigle was located in the area of La. 182 and Grizzaffi Street and arrested on a warrant. Daigle was jailed.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Scott Anslum reported that deputies responded to 33 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:

—Rochelle Ruffin, 30, of Main Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:23 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of driving under suspension.

Deputies were dispatched to a location on U.S. 90 East in Bayou Vista in reference to a vehicle that was observed by a detective who failed to yield to the right lane of travel. The deputies conducted a traffic stop and made contact with Ruffin.

Through the stop, the deputies learned that Ruffin’s driver’s license was suspended, Anslum said. Ruffin was released on a summons to appear in court Jan. 30, 2019.

—Davin Myers, 27, of Duchamp Road in Broussard, was arrested at 6:36 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear on a charge of criminal trespassing and on a bond forfeiture.

A corrections deputy made contact with Myers when he turned himself in at parish jail. Myers was booked on the warrant with no bail set.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.

Patterson Police Chief Janis Merritt reported no arrests.
