Assumption sheriff wounded in shooting

Louisiana State Police detectives are investigating an officer-involved shooting Thursday in which Assumption Sheriff Leland Falcon sustained a minor wound.
The preliminary investigation revealed that deputies were responding to reports of a shooting at a residence on Bayou Drive in the Pierre Part area, state police said.
The Assumption Parish Sheriff and a deputy located a victim suffering from gunshot wounds. While searching the area for the suspected shooter, they encountered an individual nearby.
During the encounter, the suspect fired a weapon toward Falcon. As a result, the deputy discharged a service weapon, striking the suspect.
Both the original shooting victim and the suspect were transported to a hospital with serious injuries. The sheriff sustained minor injuries during the incident, and the deputy was uninjured. The Louisiana State Police Crime Lab assisted in processing the scene.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation in its early stages.
Falcon and his entire family offered their sincere appreciation and gratitude for the many phone calls and texts from well-wishers, concerned residents and the law enforcement community following the unfortunate events in Pierre Part.
Falcon is asking everyone to keep all those affected by this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers.
