Police: Man arrested on domestic abuse charges

A 34-year-old Morgan City man was arrested on domestic abuse charges after Morgan City police responded to a dispute, Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.

—Robert J. Ballance, 34, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:17 a.m. Tuesday on charges of domestic abuse battery-strangulation and domestic abuse battery-child endangerment law.

Patrol officers responded to the area of Railroad Avenue in regard to a domestic dispute. Officers arrived when Ballance was identified as one of the parties involved.

Ballance and the victim were involved in a verbal altercation when Ballance allegedly committed a battery on the victim by strangulation, Blair said. There was also a child present during the altercation, Blair said. Ballance was jailed.

Blair reported that officers responded to 44 calls and reported the following arrests:

—Darell J. Gash, 37, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:48 p.m. Monday on a warrant charging him with failure to appear for trial.

Gash was located and arrested in the area of Gen. McArthur Street on an active arrest warrant for 16th Judicial District Court. Gash was jailed.

—Bradley S. Williams, 28, of La. 14 in New Iberia, was arrested at 1:55 p.m. Monday on a warrant charging him with five counts of failure to appear to pay a fine.

Williams was located and arrested at the police department on a warrant for city court. Williams was jailed.

Berwick Police Chief James Blair reported no arrests.

Patterson Police chief Janis Merritt reported no arrests.
