UPDATED: BARRY JOHN STEVENS

June 22, 1938 -September 25, 2018
Barry Jon Stevens, a lifelong resident of Berwick, was called home to be with the Lord on Sept. 25, 2018, at the age of 80.
Barry was a loving father and grandfather, a free spirit, a “don’t ask if you don’t want an honest answer,” and a family-oriented man. His grandchildren were the light of his life and he cherished the bond he shared with his brothers, which they built on love and respect. When it came to his friendships, he treasured each and every one of them and considered his friends to be more like family. Berwick, Louisiana was the place that he called home, and where he served as a Postman for over 25 years. Barry proudly served our country in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany. When he returned from Germany he furthered his service and joined the National Guard. Barry was an active member of the VFW and the Knights of Columbus and took great pride in his roles of each. Anyone that knew Barry, knew that he was an avid history buff that appreciated old films, books and stories. He was a great cook who loved food, but an even better critic. If there is one thing we can take away from his life, it was that he lived free and in his own way.
Those left to cherish his memory are the mother of his children, Melvina Stevens; two sons, Dan Stevens and his wife, Samantha, and Albert Stevens and his fiancee, Jeana Domangue; his daughter, Kristina Stevens and partner, William Carter Sr.; three brothers, Gene, Alfred and Mark Stevens, all residents of Texas; grandchildren, Savannah and Grant Stevens, Sierra Stevens, Olivia and Elliott Domangue, and Hailey Smelcer; and step grandchildren, JJ, James, Rhyan and William Carter Jr.
Barry is joined in heaven by his parents, Albert Stevens Sr. and Violet Blanco, three brothers and five sisters.
Visitation was observed Tuesday, October 2, 2018 from 10 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. at Hargrave Funeral Home. Barry was laid to rest in the Berwick Cemetery following services. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Hargrave Funeral Home.
