REV. ROBERT GUY MARCELL

January 22, 1931 — July 24, 2022

Rev. Robert Guy Marcell, 91, known to most close to him as “Bob,” a resident of Baton Rouge, LA and native of Amelia, LA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 24, 2022 at Baton Rouge General Hospital.

Rev. Robert was born on January 22, 1931, the son of Robert Joseph Marcell and Janet Gianfala Marcell. He attended elementary school at Sacred Heart Academy in Morgan City, LA and two years of high school with the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in Thibodaux, LA. He was accepted at St. Joseph Seminary in Covington, LA, where he completed high school and junior college. He enrolled at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans, LA to complete his studies for the priesthood. He was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest in 1956. He later obtained degrees as a Master’s in Psychology and in Pastoral Counseling.

Rev. Robert served many Catholic parishes in the Baton Rouge, LA area as Associate Pastor and Pastor for 45 years. Upon his retirement, he remained in Baton Rouge and continued to serve the Church when needed.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his brothers, Thaddeus Marcell, Sr. and wife Nedra, Anthony “Tony” Marcell; sister, Carolyn Marcell Sonnier and husband Bruce; numerous nephews and nieces, along with many family, friends, and associates he loved and kept close to his heart.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be on Friday, July 29, 2022 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City, LA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Patterson, LA followed by burial in the church cemetery.
