MERVIL MORRIS WRITTEN

Mervil Morris Written, 82, a native of Bayou Vista, passed away at Teche Regional Medical Center on Friday, March 10, 2017, surrounded by loved ones.
He was born March 24, 1934, in Berwick, the son of Charles Rudolph Written and Daisy Givens Written.
Mervil began his 50-year career in the oil industry as a deckhand. His work ethic and dedication paid off as he worked his way up the ladder to the positions of engineer and retired as a captain from Oceaneering. Over the years his employers, in addition to Oceaneering, included Tidex, Arthur Levy and Seacor. He enjoyed working in his flower and vegetable gardens. As a younger man, he enjoyed the pastimes of most good Cajun men: fishing, hunting and cruising rivers, bayous, and backwaters of our area in his boat.
Mr. Written was a dedicated family man who enjoyed nothing more than a backyard barbecue with his family followed by a loud and rousing game of cards. There was not a thing that broke that he could not repair, and he passed that passion and skill on to his sons. Working hard, playing hard, he taught us all to be self-reliant. We will miss his tremendous love for his family, his can-do attitude and his love of life.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn Comeaux Written of Bayou Vista; son, Carl Joseph Written and wife Tammy of Patterson; daughters, Darlene Aucoin and husband Kirk of Bayou Vista, and Tammy LaCoste of Patterson; daughter-in-law, Julie Written; grandchildren, Shawna, Stacy, Johnny, Chris, Shentelle, April, Misty, Kody, Jessica and Jordan; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Mervil was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Rudolph Written and Daisy Givens Written; son, Rusty James Written; son-in-law, Ira “Boogie” LaCoste; and brothers, Kurney White and Woodie White.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at Twin City Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., with a Rosary being recited at noon. A Funeral Service will be held at United Methodist Church of Patterson at 2 p.m. Mervil will be laid to rest in the Saint Joseph Mausoleum in Patterson.
