MATTHEW 'MATT' MICHAEL CAIN
March 29, 1968 — March 6, 2022
Matthew “Matt” Michael Cain, age 53, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022 in Lafayette, Louisiana, surrounded by his family.
Matt was born on March 29, 1968, in Franklin, LA. He was the son of Jack and Genevieve (Genny) Cain. He attended St. John Elementary and graduated from Hanson Memorial in 1986.
Matt was a remarkably gifted athlete and held the honor of leading scorer among 11 Acadiana high schools in his senior year. Matt reigned as King of Carnival Court in 1986 and was a member of the Retreat Team and Choir.
Matthew was a passionate and dedicated Chef, spending much of his career at The Forest Restaurant in Franklin, Louisiana. His Crawfish Étouffée was, simply put, spectacular. His energy in the kitchen and his ability to manage the fast-paced, high-pressure demands of a popular restaurant earned him the respect of his peers. His love for serving people was a driving force in Matt’s life, and he will be missed by his co-workers and those he served.
He is survived by his two sons, Tony Cain and Cameron Cain; his mother, Genny Cain; his stepmother, Gail Cain; three sisters, Damion “Dee Dee” Cain Guillory, Scarlet Cain, and Maxine C. Vaccarella; his brother, Brent Cormier, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Cain, his brother, Anthony “Tony” Cain, and his sister and Godmother, Connie Cormier Allen.
In keeping with his wishes, he will be cremated and laid to rest in a private ceremony alongside his father, Billy “Jack” Cain, and his brother, Anthony “Tony” Cain.
