Donna Whipple Adams
Donna Whipple Adams, age 76, passed away peacefully in Houston, Texas on November 26, 2022.
Donna was born in Kosciusko, MS on November 8, 1946, daughter of Donna and Clifford Whipple. She moved to Morgan City, LA when she was 6 years old where she lived until she graduated from Central Catholic High School. Intelligent and community minded, Donna proceeded to attend Nicholls State University to study nursing. After graduation, she built a successful career as a labor and delivery nurse, which she enjoyed immensely and in which she found both meaning and purpose.
Donna is survived by her loving family, including husband of 56 years, Digby Jean Adams; daughter, Heather Adams Mann and son-in-law, Aric Mann; grandsons, David and Michael Mann of Colorado; and sister, Margaret Laurent.
Faith played an integral part in Donna’s life. As a devout Catholic, she was a dedicated member of Catholic Daughters. She taught catechism for several years and served as a member of both the vocal and bell choirs at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Berwick where she lived. Donna’s involvement in the latter reflected her life-long love of music. Her family remembers fondly the excitement she showed when given the opportunity to attend a Pavarotti concert.
Donna was widely known for her kind and loving spirit. She enjoyed nothing more than giving or receiving a good hug and spending time with her loved ones. Specifically, Donna adored playing Scrabble, winning often as she knew more words than a thesaurus. Donna’s talent for and love of language extended to her correspondence. She was known for the eloquent words that she used in cards and letters sent to family and friends and for her beautiful, albeit very small, handwriting.
Donna spent the final years of her life in Houston to be close to her daughter. She easily made friends wherever she went and was well known for her ever-present smile.
Near the end of her life, she was in the care of Buena Vida Hospice in Houston and the comfort and support provided by the staff, especially Rosita who quickly became a dear family friend, was superb. Donna was able to touch the lives of many and especially enjoyed visits from her hospice volunteer who said “she was such a special woman and happened to be the purest friendship that I never planned. I will cherish every story she shared with me.”
Donna’s life will be celebrated with a mass at Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at 415 Union Street, Morgan City, Louisiana, 70380. Visitation begins at 10:00 am with mass following at 11:00 am.
