ANTHONY JOSEPH SCELFO and SHIRLEY BOUDREAUX SCELFO

Funeral services celebrating the lives of Anthony Joseph Scelfo, 91, and Shirley Boudreaux Scelfo, 93, will be held Saturday, December 2, 2017, at the Church of the Assumption in Franklin during an 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Following the Mass, Mr. A.J. and Mrs. Shirley will be laid to rest in the Perpetual Park Cemetery Mausoleum. Father Lloyd Benoit will be the Celebrant for the Mass and conduct the services. A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday at the church from 9 a.m. until Mass time at 11:30 a.m., with the Holy rosary being prayed at 10 a.m. Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Breaux, Kevin Credeur, Pheng Nitchin, Richard Fitzgerald, Dana Louviere, and Kenny Scelfo.
Mr. A.J., a native and lifelong resident of Franklin, and Mrs. Shirley, a native of Baldwin and a 71 year resident of Franklin, both passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at their home, Mr. A.J. in the morning hours and Mrs. Shirley just hours later in the afternoon. They began their life together on October 20, 1946 and just recently celebrated 71 years of marriage. Mr. A.J. was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II on the island of Okinawa. Following his service in the Navy, he went to work in the family business with his father and brothers, eventually becoming the owner and operator of Frank Scelfo Son Cleaners until retiring. Mrs. Shirley worked in her early years as secretary at E.A. Crowell School until starting a family and choosing to be a stay-at-home mother and homemaker.
Those they leave to cherish their memory include their two daughters, Cindy S. Breaux and her husband Jessie and Chris S. Hester and her husband Johnny; five grandchildren, Missy B. Nitchin and her husband Pheng, Jolene B. Credeur and her husband Kevin, Ryan Breaux and his wife Krista, Brooke H. Strait and her husband Jason, and Amy Hester; six great grandchildren, Tyler and Tanner Nitchin, Zachary and Charley Credeur, and Cooper and Morgan Strait. In addition, Mr. A.J. is survived by one sister, Sarah S. Campbell and her husband Harold, and Mrs. Shirley is survived by one sister, Fay B. Louviere; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and family members.
Mr. A.J. was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Scelfo Sr. and Sarah Incavida Scelfo; and four siblings, Frank Scelfo Jr., Salvador Scelfo, Camille Scelfo, and John Scelfo Sr.
Mrs. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Seraphin Boudreaux Sr. and Agnes Lagrange Boudreaux; and 14 siblings, Electa B. Broussard, Milton Boudreaux, Wilda B. Brown, Anthony Boudreaux, Clarfa Boudreaux, Eloise B. Lanza, Eunice B. Dooley, Agnes Lee B. Linnartz, Stanley Boudreaux, Mildred B. Mendoza, S. J. Boudreaux, Sherald Boudreaux, Kearney Boudreaux, and Ray Boudreaux.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the nurses and staff of Heart of Hospice, Dr. Roland Degeyter, and especially to their loving caregivers, Linda Baker, Sheila Bailey, Bethany Randle, Elizabeth Johnson, and Denise Provost.
