Phoenix completes underway repair job in Maryland

Phoenix International Holdings Inc. says it successfully completed an emergent underwater inspection and repair operation on a general cargo vessel following suspected hull damage.
Upon contact with the client, Phoenix’s Chesapeake, Virginia dive team mobilized to Wilmington, Delaware, to conduct an initial assessment of the vessel’s underwater hull. Because of limited in-water visibility at this location, the vessel was relocated to Tradepoint Terminal in Baltimore, Maryland.
Following the inspection, a DNV-compliant repair plan was developed, and Phoenix welder divers fit and welded a doubler plate to the exterior of the vessel’s hull. The team then continued repairs from inside the hull, performing full-penetration welding, composed of root, fill and cap weld layers. Additional repairs were completed on the vessel’s bilge keel, including trimming damaged areas to restore the structure. All repairs were completed with a DNV surveyor in attendance.
The project was led by Florida Area Manager David Lamon, and diving teams from two Phoenix office locations: a Chesapeake, Virginia-based dive team including Diving Supervisors Victor Martinez and Jonah Creamean, along with divers Christian Campbell and Isaiah Holloman, and Davie, Florida-based divers Christian Ansley and Ethan Chips.
Working long hours and overcoming challenging conditions, the Phoenix team completed the required repairs within a short operational window while maintaining a strong focus on quality and safety, the company said.
