Three men arrested after pursuit led to Bayou Vista

The three men arrested Wednesday after an armed robbery also face weapon charges, the St. Mary Sheriff’s Office said.
The men fled on foot after crashing their vehicle in Bayou Vista, leading to a lockdown at Bayou Vista Elementary and public warnings that the men were considered armed and dangerous.
--Jonathan Decal Gray, 20, Morgan City, was arrested at 9:06 p.m. Wednesday on charges of armed robbery, illegal possession of a firearm and resisting arrest or officer, and on a probation violation.
--James Vincent Howell II, 21, Morgan City, was arrested at 10:27 p.m. Wednesday on charges of armed robbery, illegal possession of a firearm, resisting arrest or officer, and simple and aggravated escape, and on a probation violation.
--Keon Ameud Carbin, 22, Berwick, was arrested at 9:34 p.m. Wednesday on charges of armed robbery, illegal possession of a firearm, criminal trespass, resisting arrest or officer, possession of Schedule I drugs, and introduction of contraband into a penal institution, and on a probation violation.
The Sheriff’s Office learned Wednesday of a vehicle pursuit by Morgan City police after a victim was robbed at gunpoint in the Siracusa Recreation Department parking lot, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The vehicle, occupied by the three suspects, continued into Bayou Vista, where the driver crashed into a mailbox on Middle Road. The suspects fled on foot in the surrounding residential area and a nearby sugar cane field.
“Out of an abundance of caution, School Resource Officers put the local elementary school on lockdown and secured the area as SMPSO deputies, detectives, MCPD officers, [Berwick]PD officers and Morgan City Marshal’s Office deputies all joined in the search.
Gray, Carbin and Howell were located in the area and detained. They were brought in for questioning and booking at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center. Bail has not been set at this time.
“We all train the same way, and when an incident like this happens, it is good to see everyone instantly do what they are trained to do in their respective areas of responsibility, and see things happen so smoothly,” Sheriff Gary Driskell said in a Facebook post.
Driskell and deputies thanked the Morgan City Police Department, the Berwick Police Department, Morgan City Marshal’s Office deputies and members of the public for their help in this incident.
