Fishing rodeo funds go to education, service agencies
The weigh-ins for the Morgan City Open Fishing Rodeo happened two months ago. The big payouts were Wednesday.
That’s when the rodeo organization handed checks to educational and service agencies, money raised by the fishing competition and golf tournament June 12-13.
This was the 14th year the fishing rodeo distributed funds. The events raised about $36,000 for the causes represented by the agencies.
The fishing tournament drew 70 teams, a significant number but not a record. Entries for the golf tournament at the St. Mary Parish Golf & Country Club had to be capped at 64.
“A lot of hard work went into it, but I think it helps,” said MCOFR President Cannata.
Most of the checks were distributed Wednesday at South Louisiana Community College’s Young Memorial Campus. Cannata, Jo Anne Bergeron and Jonathan Scully represented the MCOFR organization.
Wednesday’s recipients were:
•South Louisiana Community College
•Scout Troop 49
•The Morgan City Police Department Benevolent Association.
•ARC of St. Mary/Center of Hope
•The Nicklaus Bolner Foundation
•The Wedell-Williams Aviation and Cypress Sawmill Museum
Nicholls State is also to receive funds from the MCOFR.
