Streets 'co-named' for heroic veterans

The first signpost honoring Morgan City military veterans was unveiled Monday on Victor II Boulevard near Myrtle Street. The sign dedicates a portion of Victor II to 1st Lt. J. Cameron Webster, whose decorations included the Purple Heart and the Silver Star for his service in Vietnam. He died in 2018. Unveiling his sign were his wife Linda and granddaughter Sophie. Webster's sign was the first of 10 unveiled Monday by the Heroes Way Commission, a volunteer group that raised money and planned the project, led by Matt Dragna. The other Monday honorees were Capt. Bert Chauvin, Justa Street between Allison and Roderick; Capt. Leonard Thomas Duval, Everett and Second Street; Lt. Col. Dale Hayes Sr., Victor II near Brashear; Master Sgt. John "Henry Poncio, Federal Avenue and Arenz Street; Technical Sgt. George Beaugh, Seventh between Clothilde and Willard; Maj. James Blakeman, Federal and Freret; 1st Lt. Ruth Elda Blakeman, Marguerite near Seventh; Sgt. Brad Bradford, Federal and Railroad Avenue; and Pvt. Cornelius Brashear, Railroad Avenue at Sumpter Williams. The Heroes Way Commission homes to honor more people each Veterans Day.
