'Dickie' Shannon, who operated iconic MC store, dies at 88
The retired owner-operator of one of Morgan City’s oldest and iconic businesses has died.
Maurice “Dickie” Diedrich Shannon III died Saturday at his home in Morgan City.
Shannon was the fourth generation in his family to run Shannon Hardware, which traces its roots to 1970 and has carried the Shannon name since 1972.
The obituary submitted by Shannon’s family said he introduced computerized inventory systems into the businesses, one of the first Morgan City businesses to do so.
Under his leadership, Shannon opened stores in Broussard and Houma.
Services for Shannon included visitation 5-9 p.m. Tuesday, including a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
