No contest: Biden, Trump break 90% in primaries here

In two races that lacked suspense, both Democratic President Joe Biden and former Republican President each got 90% support from their respective parties in St. Mary Parish in Saturday’s presidential primary.

By the previous week, each of the two candidates had secured enough delegates to clinch their parties' presidential nominations.

Neither candidate had a big-name opponent remaining in the primaries, a fact that showed both in the vote totals and in the turnout of 12-13%.

Biden got 1,262 votes, or 90% in the Democratic primary. Only one challenger, Marianne Williamson, got as many as 46 votes.

On the Republican side, Trump received 1,296 votes, or 95% of the GOP total.

Chet Howard received 72 votes, the highest total on the Republican ballot by anyone other than Trump.

In races for party posts, Woodrow J. Park got 670 votes, or 58%, to 489 votes for Ajani Connor in the race for Democratic State Central Committee member from House District 50 Office B.

Horward Castay won races for DSCC member from House District 51 Office B by a margin of 105-29 over Ralphon Triggs and for Democratic Party Executive Committee member at large for District 11 708-706 over Parker.

Chet Howard won the race for Republic State Central Committee District 21A with 72 votes to 42 for Matthew Gulotta.
