Early voting light here for presidential primaries

Only about 3% of St. Mary’s registered voters took advantage of the chance to vote early in Saturday’s Louisiana presidential primary.
Election day at regular polling places will be 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday. Voters will be able to vote only on the ballot that matches their party registration. Bring a photo ID to the polls.
Louisiana Republicans were also set to caucus Tuesday at the congressional district level in the party's two-tiered delegate selection process. St. Mary Republicans were to caucus in Gray.
The St. Mary Registrar of Voters Office reported that 501 absentee ballots were received as of Saturday, and that 542 people voted early in person during the March 9-16 early voting period.
As of March 1, St. Mary had 31,653 registered voters, according to the Louisiana Secretary of State’s Office.
Louisiana’s primaries come long after the mystery evaporated in the races for the two major party presidential nominations.
Earlier this month, incumbent Democratic President Joe Biden and former Republican President Donald J. Trump sewed up enough delegates to clinch their respective nominations.
There wasn’t much mystery in St. Mary Parish anyway.
Parish voters went for Trump in the 2020 general election by a 64%-35% margin over Biden with a 70% turnout. Among the other candidates, only Libertarian Jo Jorgensen got as much as 1%.
In the 2020 primary election, Trump got 98% of the Republican vote in St. Mary, and Biden picked up 84% of the Democratic vote with a 22% turnout.
The presidential primaries will not stand alone on the Saturday ballots. Democratic and Republican party members will also vote on parish and state party posts.
