Morgan City family wakes to find stranger in home

The morning of Sept. 28 started like a regular day at the Federal Avenue home of Katy Babin and Dr. Francis Scott Sicard: getting up, seeing to the married couple’s 3-year-old, getting the 9-year-old ready for school.

And then they discovered the stranger who spent the night on their porch and their couch.

Sicard called the Review to say the story should be a warning to make sure doors are locked.

Morgan City police reported that Monika Marie Faulk, 56, Main Street, Franklin, was arrested at 7:23 a.m. Sept. 28 on a charge of unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling.

Babin told the Review that when she woke that Wednesday morning, she found someone sleeping on a couch with a cover pulled over her head. The hair not covered by the blanket was the same color as her daughter’s, and Babin assumed her girl had fallen asleep watching TV.

But Sicard discovered that the 9-year-old was in her room, Babin said.

The family went to the backyard and called police.

Babin and Morgan City police Lt. John Schaff both said the woman said she had spent part of the night on the front porch of the house but came in through an unlocked door when the weather turned cool.
