Woman arrested, accused of involving kids in drug sales

Berwick police have arrested a River Road woman who is accused of using her children to sell drugs.

Berwick

Police Chief David Leonard Sr. reported these arrests:

--Alyssa L. Ashmore, 32, River Road, Berwick, was arrested at 5:42 p.m. Friday on charges of distribution of codeine, cruelty to juveniles and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles (controlled dangerous substance laws).

On Thursday, the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services contacted detectives with the Berwick Police Department to report that the agency received a report that a female made her two juvenile children sell drugs on her behalf.

In addition to the investigation being handled by Family Services, a criminal investigation was immediately initiated. Through investigation, Ashmore was identified as the suspect.

Investigators interviewed witnesses and obtained video evidence that supported the reports made to Family Services. On Friday morning, investigators made contact with Ashmore and interviewed her at the Berwick Police Department.

During the interview, Ashmore admitted to sending two of her juvenile children to a location late at night to deliver prescription medication to another individual. The medication that was delivered contained codeine, which is a controlled dangerous substance.

A search warrant was executed at Ashmore’s residence, and investigators located more evidence to support the distribution of the medication. Following the investigation, arrest warrants were secured for her arrest and she was booked into the Berwick Jail.
Ashmore’s children were placed into the custody of LA DCFS. Ashmore remains jailed with no bond set.

--Lorenzo Medina Ramirez, 20, La. 182, Patterson, was arrested at 5:58 p.m. Saturday on charges of careless operation of a motor vehicle with crash and no driver’s license.

At 5:25 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a two-vehicle crash that occurred on U.S. 90. Officers made contact with Medina-Ramirez.

It was learned that Medina-Ramirez did not have a driver’s license. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department, where he was booked.. He was released after posting a $302.00 cash bond.

--Deontay Jones, 26, Taft Street, Patterson, was arrested at 4:56 p.m. Sunday on a charge of possession of marijuana (over 14 grams).

On Sunday, a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle for speeding. During the course of the stop, officers detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Jones was identified as a passenger inside the vehicle and during a search, marijuana was located, which he stated belonged to him.

Jones was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department, where he was booked. He was released after posting a $2,000 bond.

St. Mary

Sheriff Blaise Smith reported that over the last 72-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 91 complaints and made these arrests:

--John Washington, 66, Morgan City, was arrested at 5:10 p.m. Saturday on a warrant alleging failure to appear on a charge of possession with intent to distribute marijuana,.

--Marquis Devonte Givens, 24, Lafayette, was arrested at 9:32 a.m. Friday on a Lafayette Parish warrant alleging attempted first-degree murder and criminal damage to property. Givens was transferred to another agency.

--Willie James Hayes Jr., 42, Patterson, was arrested at 12:40 a.m. Sunday on a charge of simple criminal damage to property. Hayes was released on a $1,500 bond.

--Christopher John Absher, 37, Morgan City, was arrested at 9:53 p.m. Sunday on charges of domestic abuse battery by strangulation and domestic abuse child endangerment. Bail has not been set at this time.

--Christopher Wayne Reaves, 52, Paradis, was arrested at 1:08 a.m. Friday on a charge of possession of Schedule II drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance.

Morgan City

Police Chief Mark E. Griffin Jr. reported that the Morgan City Police Department responded to 99 calls for service over the last 72-hour reporting period and made these arrests:

--Alain Carbins Johnson, 44, Fourth Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 8:18 a.m. Friday on warrants alleging domestic abuse battery, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance law (drug-free zone).

--Justin Earl Stratton, 27, Verdunville Road, Franklin, was arrested at 1:58 a.m. Saturday on a charge of failure to appear to pay fine (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

--Quijakius Johnson, 40, Apple Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 4:29 a.m. Saturday on a warrant alleging cruelty to animals.

--William Joseph Allen, 52, Everett Street, Morgan City, was arrested on a charge of probation violation (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

--Brandon Leigh Boudreaux, 36, Susan Drive, Morgan City, was arrested at 10:35 p.m. Saturday on a warrant alleging remaining where forbidden.

--Shawn Edward McCauley, 45, Susan Drive, Morgan City, was arrested at 10:41 p.m. Saturday on warrants alleging theft of animals and cruelty to animals.

--Tyrone Fitzgerald Thomas, 58, Sixth Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 1:42 a.m. Sunday on charges of theft (under $1,000), resisting an officer and battery on a police officer.

--Breidy River-Caceres, 22, South Verett Street, Amelia, was arrested at 2:36 a.m. Sunday on charges of driving while intoxicated (first offense), reckless operation of a motor vehicle, switched license plate, possession of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, registration required and no driver’s license.

--Seth Michael Ray, 21, Antill Drive, Thibodaux, was arrested at 7:41 p.m. Sunday on fugitive warrants from from the Lafourche and Assumption sheriff’s offices.

--Rickey James Foret Jr., 43, Stacey Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 7:51 a.m. Sunday on a charge of simple battery and a warrant alleging simple battery.

--Joshua James Robert Jones, 35, La. 182, Morgan City, was arrested at 10:46 p.m. Sunday on a charge of failure to pay fine (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

Patterson

Police Chief Garrett Grogan reported these arrests:

--Brian J. Delaune Jr., 37, Felterman Lane, Patterson, was arrested at 10:03 p.m. Friday on a warrant alleging theft of a motor vehicle. Delaune is incarcerated at the Patterson PD Jail with no bond set.

--Shane K. Scott, 39, Hebert Road, Patterson was arrested at 8:53 a.m. Sunday on charges of theft ($100), criminal damage to property and resisting an officer by flight. Scott was incarcerated at the Patterson PD Jail with no bond set.

--Devin Spears, 24, Southern Circle, Thibodaux, was arrested at 11:36 p.m. Sunday on a charge of driving with a suspended or revoked license. Spears is incarcerated at the Patterson PD Jail with bond set at $437.

--Gregory Granger, 35, McGee Street, Patterson, was arrested at 12:07 a.m. Monday on a charge of domestic abuse battery. Granger was incarcerated at the Patterson PD Jail with no bond set.

Franklin

Police Chief Morris Beverly reported that the Franklin Police Department responded to 16 complaints over the past weekend and made this arrest:

--Mark Robin Jr., 37, James Street, Franklin, was arrested at 11:41 p.m. Sunday on a warrant dated Aug. 25 alleging theft and a warrant for 16th Judicial District Court alleging failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family. Robin was booked, processed and held on a $2,000 bond.
