On Tuesday, considered by meteorologists to be the end of the hurricane season, this group gathered at the statue of the Virgin Mary in the Brashear Avenue median to pray the rosary. Each year, the Confraternity of Our Lady Star of the Sea gathers at the beginning of hurricane season in June to pray for protection from storms. This year, a late-hour eastward shift in the course of Hurricane Ida spared east St. Mary from all but minor damage.
