55 new COVID cases in three parishes; state hospitalizations up sharply
St. Mary, St. Martin and Assumption parishes reported a total of 55 new COVID-19 test positives in the 24 hours ending at midday Thursday. Meanwhile, the Louisiana Office of Public Health said the number of people in hospitals for COVID treatment jumped by 41.
Here are the numbers:
--In St. Mary, 25 new cases pushed the total number of positives since the pandemic began to 514. Thirty-eight people have died here. About 6,100 people have been tested.
--In St. Martin, 23 cases Thursday raised the total to 750 with 26 deaths. About 9,700 people have been tested.
--In Assumption, seven new cases make the pandemic total 364 with 15 deaths. About 3,500 people have been tested.
Statewide:
--1,383 new cases raised the total to 61,561.
--17 deaths raised the toll to 3,147.
--41 new hospitalizations mean 840 people are currently in hospitals for treatment.
--The number of people on ventilators grew 7 to 91.
