Cool weather and high water have caused a slow start to the crawfish harvest season. That lackluster start and the beginning of Lent are driving up crawfish prices.
But industry officials say the harvest should improve in the next few weeks.
The catch of crawfish has been extremely slow so far this season in both the Atchafalaya Basin and private ponds in south Louisiana, said Sidney “Peanut” Michel, owner of D&B Seafood in Morgan City.
