Newman hands Berwick it first loss of the season

Early miscues sank Berwick in a battle of unbeaten teams Friday at Geisler Stadium. Newman (4-0) jumped out to a 23-7 halftime lead and held on for a 37-27 nondistrict win. The Greenies opened the scoring after the Panthers failed to convert a fake punt on a fourth-and-1 from the Berwick 26-yard line. James Poche scored on a 15-yard run with 6:04 remaining in the opening quarter. The quarter ended with Newman up 7-0.
