Sheriff presents checks
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert and Chief Deputy Scott Anslum presented checks to the parish’s junior high school softball coaches on Wednesday at the St. Mary Parish School Board office.
“We raised the price of admission to our games, and the sheriff paid for everything,” said St. Mary Junior High Baseball director Paul Frost. “And what’s left he’s giving back to the schools to help buy balls, gloves, catcher equipment, whatever you need.”
“Junior high is (going to) get a lot,” Frost continued. “Varsity’s always number one, but this was junior high kids can get stuff back, too. And the parents can see where the money goes when they have to pay the fee.”
“This gives (the student athletes) an opportunity to advance their skillsets, give them an opportunity to play a little more, get active as they get into high school and things like that,” said Hebert.
Schools receiving checks included Central Catholic High School, Berwick Junior High School, Patterson Junior High School, Franklin Junior High School, Stephensville Elementary School and Hanson Memorial High School. Morgan City Junior High School, which did not send a representative, will also receive a check.
