LSUA drops doubleheader to No. 12 William Carey

LSUA continued its tough non-conference schedule with a midweek doubleheader against No. 12 William Carey, and the Crusaders defended their home diamond with 14-5 and 16-6 wins against the Generals Wednesday afternoon at Milton Wheeler Field.
The Generals jumped out first in game one as Trace Oliva singled in Logan Constantine to put LSUA up 1-0.
It would stay that way into the third inning when William Carey jumped out with four runs in the inning as Wes Brown, Tyler Graves and James Land each hit RBI singles, and then Tyler Odom capped it with a RBI triple to put the Crusaders up 4-1.
LSUA responded in the top of the fourth with two runs as an error allowed Oliva and Morgan City High alum Brady Fryou to score and cut LSUA’s deficit to 4-3.
William Carey got one of those runs back in the bottom of the fourth on a Graves sacrifice fly.
The Crusaders blew the game open in the fifth inning with nine runs.
The Generals got a little closer with two runs in the seventh inning as Fryou’s single scored Zach Hebert and Drew Brown’s sacrifice fly scored Oliva, but that was all the offense the Generals could muster.
Blake Garrett (0-2) suffered the loss. In 3.1 innings, he surrendered five hits and five runs (one earned). He struck out three and walked two.
Constantine, Oliva and Fryou each had two hits in game one, with Oliva, Fryou and Brown each collecting a RBI.
Game two started much differently as the Crusaders took the advantage immediately.
After LSUA left the bases loaded in the top of the first inning, William Carey opened a big lead with seven runs in the bottom of the first.
LSUA tried to get back in the game starting in the third inning as Constantine hit his fourth home run of the season to pull the Generals back within 7-1.
The push back continued in the fourth inning as Constantine singled in Brown for a 7-2 score.
However, the Crusaders put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings as they scored four in the fourth and five in the fifth for a 16-2 lead.
The Generals got two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings.
Dillon Deblieux (1-2) suffered the loss as he had a rough start. He was unable to record an out and gave up five runs (all earned) on two hits.
Constantine and Oliva each had three hits in the second game, with Constantine and Bryce Laird each collecting two RBIs.
The Generals (13-12) remain on the road this weekend for a conference series against Texas College (6-18). First pitch for Friday's single game against the Steers is set for 2 p.m. at Texas College Field.
