Central Catholic High School opened District 7-1A action at Highland Baptist Monday with a 17-6 run-rule win in five innings.
The Lady Eagles never trailed.
They led 6-2 after an inning, 8-2 after two complete, 14-4 after three innings, 15-4 after four innings and each team scored two runs in the fifth.
Haley Fontenot earned the win. In three innings, she surrendered two earned runs on three hits with two walks and fanned three.
Sara Thomas pitched two innings of relief and surrendered one earned run on two hits with one walk and fanned two.
Offensively, Central Catholic pounded out 17 hits, with Kaleigh Navarro and Taylor Picou each connecting on home runs. Navarro was 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, four RBIs and two runs, while Picou was 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs, one stolen base and two runs. Other top offensive contributors included Emma Aucoin, 4-for-4, three runs and two stolen bases; Hallie Autin, 3-for-4, two doubles, three RBIs, a stolen base and three runs; Brooke Lipari, 2-for-2, a double, three stolen bases and three runs; Kelly Russo, 2-for-4, two runs and a stolen base; and Fontenot, 2-for-3, an RBI
Central Catholic (7-2 overall, 1-0 in district) will return to action today when it hosts Ascension Episcopal at the Bayou Vista Community Center. Junior varsity action is set for a 4 p.m. start with varsity to follow at 5 p.m.
MCHS finishes 3-0 this weekend
Morgan City High School finished 3-0 at Berwick’s Lady Panther Classic this weekend as it run-ruled Patterson, 12-2, in six innings Friday, came back to defeat Central Catholic, 9-5, Saturday and later Saturday, rolled past Berwick, 10-1.
Against Patterson, the two teams were tied at 1 heading into the bottom of the second, but Morgan City took the lead for good when it scored two runs in the frame.
Morgan City added a run in the third and five in the fourth for a 9-1 advantage.
After Patterson scored a run in the top of the sixth, Morgan City responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game via the mercy rule.
Kennedy Hebert led Morgan City with a 3-for-3 performance with two doubles, a triple, four RBIs and a run. Other top Morgan City offensive contributors included McKenzi Smith, 3-for-4, a double, a stolen base and two runs; Gracie Verrett, 1-for-4, an RBI and a run; and Madalyn Hebert, an RBI and two runs.
On the mound, Kennedy Hebert earned the win as she tossed a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts. She surrendered one walk, two unearned runs and hit two batters.
Against Central Catholic, Morgan City rallied from a 4-0 deficit in the top of the first inning for the win.
Morgan City scored a run in the bottom of the first, two in the bottom of the third and three each in the fifth and sixth innings.
Central Catholic plated a run in the top of the seventh.
Scottie Metrejean led Morgan City with a 2-for-3 performance with a double, a home run, four RBIs and two runs. Other top Morgan City offensive contributors included Kennedy Hebert, 2-for-3, a stolen base and three runs; Matti Rivere, 1-for-3, three RBIs; Madalyn Hebert, 1-for-3, a double and an RBI; and Smith, 1-for-4, a double and a run.
Kennedy Hebert earned the win for Morgan City. In seven innings, she surrendered five runs (two earned) on eight hits with nine strikeouts.
Against Berwick, Morgan City jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the top of the second.
While Berwick plated a run in the bottom of the second, Morgan City came back with five runs in the top of the fourth for the final margin.

Morgan City (8-1) will return to action Tuesday when it opens District 7-4A action at home against South Lafourche. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
Berwick finishes 1-3 at its tournament
The Berwick Lady Panthers finished 1-2 at their tournament this weekend, defeating Cecilia, 13-10, but falling to Central Catholic, 13-1, Catholic High-New Iberia, 18-2, and Morgan City, 10-1.
Friday against Central Catholic, Sydney Aucoin suffered the loss. In six innings, she surrendered 10 runs (five earned) on 14 hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Offensively, Madison Carline led Berwick with a 2-for-4 performance with an RBI. Other top offensive contributors included Jaci Arnold, 2-for-3, and Emma Hover, 2-for-4. Against Catholic High New Iberia, the visitors from Iberia parish jumped out to a 15-0 lead by the top of the fourth.
While Berwick scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth, Catholic High added three runs in the top of the fifth.
Jordan Lipari suffered the loss for Berwick. In 3.2 innings, she surrendered 15 runs (11 earned) on 14 hits with two walks and fanned one.
Kameron Davis led Berwick with a 1-for-1 performance with a double and an RBI.
Against Cecilia, Berwick trailed 4-1 heading into the bottom of the third but erupted for 12 runs for a 13-4 lead.
While Cecilia countered with a run in the fourth and five in the fifth to cut its deficit to 13-10, the visitors could get no closer.
Emma Hover led Berwick with a 3-for-5 performance with a triple, an RBI, a stolen base and three runs. Other top Berwick offensive contributors included Brittany Roberie, 2-for-4, three RBIs, a stolen base and two runs; Aucoin, 1-for3, a double, two RBIs and a run; Lipari, 1-for-3, an RBI and a run; Hannah Henry, 1-for-4, an RBI and two runs; Arnold, 1-for-4, an RBI and a run; and Carline, an RBI and a run.
Against Morgan City, Lipari suffered the loss. In seven innings, she surrendered 10 runs (five earned) on 12 hits with one walk and fanned two.
Offensively, Aucoin led Berwick with a 1-for-3 performance with a home run and an RBI, while Arnold was 2-for-3 with a double.
Berwick (3-4) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Centerville in a 4 p.m. contest.
