16th Judicial District Court Judge Curtis Sigur administers the oath to Burgess.

Third Ward Court Marshal David McCoy retires

Third Ward Court City Marshal David McCoy, top right, celebrated his retirement at the La. Marshal and Constable Conference on Friday evening in Franklin. The conference is the first of its kind in the region, and it was organized “to show love, peace and happiness and share it with our community,” said McCoy. “He’s a good man to work for,” said Chief Deputy Corey Burgess, left, “and I’m not ready for him to leave.” McCoy is retiring after 44 years of law enforcement service. An election will soon follow to determine a new city marshal; in the meantime, Burgess will serve as interim city marshal. Below, Burgess was administered the oath of office by 16th Judicial District Court Judge Curtis Sigur.
